My childcare experience began when I was 12. I began babysitting and caring for children of families on an as needed basis. I then began a nanny position, and cared for a family of two children. Boys, ages 9 and 11. I stayed with this family for a year and a half before they moved to Georgia. I then cared for another family of two children, a boy and a girl, ages 7 and 12. I continued this position for a year and my position ended because the lack of hours. Next, I was with a family of three children, twins (boy & girl) ages 3 and an older boy of 6 years old. My position ended as the twins were going into school and there was no longer a need for a nanny. Most recently, I've been with a family with 1 child currently 21 months. I began with them when he was 10 months. Unfortunately, my position came to an end,as a result of one of the parents being laid off. Therefore now I am caring for the children of 2 families for a few hours a week. Although, I am looking for something more stable and with more hours. With each family I was very active with the children. Some of the things I would do was bring them to a park, go swimming, arts and crafts, reading, helping with homework, took them to their soccer practices or any other scheduled events. With one family, I have gone along with the kids and parents to an amusement park to help out. With my most recent families, I have participated in swim survival classes, managed the house, run errands and cared for the children. I am a very outgoing person who will happily do anything the children or parents might need. I am also First Aid, CPR & AED certified.

I have been babysitting ever since I was in eighth grade, and I am about to start my sophomore year in college. I have consistently babysat for three families over the years. I would play with the kids, take them out, clean them and put them to bed. I would also tidy the house. I was the babysitter at a Gym and was in charge of keeping everything sanitized, organized and fun. I am also a swim instructor and have taught three autistic children how to swim so far.

Understand Nanny Responsibilities in Marlborough, MA

Before beginning the search for a nanny, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a nanny is the right choice for your child care needs. In hiring a nanny, first, you should think through what responsibilities you expect your nanny to handle. With that information, you can create a profile so that nannies can reach out to you. The boundaries for nannies duties vary from family to family. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example, housekeeping or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your nanny before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location can impact how much you should pay your nanny.

Marlborough Nanny Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective nannies, the next step is a nanny interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some nanny interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a nanny?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open to doing?
  • Are you open to a live in arrangement in Marlborough? Do you have experience being a live in nanny?
  • Are you open to being a nanny in a nanny share?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in Marlborough?
  • Do you have a driver’s license in MA? Do you own a car?
  • What salary are you seeking? Are you open to being paid through direct-deposit, pay stubs?
  • What are your expectations around over-time pay and vacation time?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references, and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a prospective nanny, it’s essential to make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your nanny. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around nanny responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming! And of course, as you learn how to hire a nanny, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.
