It's very common in our culture to raise each others' children. My older sister has two children and I've been helping her with them since they were infants. I cook, clean, attend school functions, assist with homework, engage them in recreation, etc... I'm currently a flight attendant and with the flexibility in my schedule, I'm able to assist my sister with childcare 15 days out of the month. I've also done babysitting while in high school.

Many years ago I helped a single mother care for her two young boys. One was an infant and the other a toddler. I would help prepare the kids breakfast while mom got ready for work. While mom was working I would entertain the children with games, stories and toys. I made sure the children went down for their naps. I also prepared their lunch and snacks. I would straighten up the house if needed. I worked with this family on and off for 3 years. I went to school and there were periods of time when the mom stayed home. The family evenutally moved out of state.

I started caring for children early as a teenager and havent stop ever since. I love Children.I feel very comfortable around them. I enjoy watching them develop and take part in their Lives. For the families i've worked for in the past I became part of their family and it's been wonderful! I've also helped teach baby sign as a nanny.

Jessica K.

Jessica is sweet as can be and took such great care of our daughter from a young age. She was great at following our schedule and is so loving and comfortable with young babies she immediately put me at ease. I love when she comes to watch our girl. - Liz

J’nécia D.

Cleanly, patient, and very fast paced. Very mature for the age she started working for me. If I needed her last minute she was there, no complaints. She even treated my girls to the nail salon when they got good grades. - Christopher Wright

J’nécia D.

Wonderful young lady who did all the duties asked. My home was always spotless and my kids loved her, especially my son. If we didn't move out of state I would've kept her around forever. Cannot go wrong with this gal. - Lean Richards

Understand Nanny Responsibilities in Copiague, NY

Before beginning the search for a nanny, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a nanny is the right choice for your child care needs. In hiring a nanny, first, you should think through what responsibilities you expect your nanny to handle. With that information, you can create a profile so that nannies can reach out to you. The boundaries for nannies duties vary from family to family. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example, housekeeping or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your nanny before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location can impact how much you should pay your nanny.

Copiague Nanny Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective nannies, the next step is a nanny interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some nanny interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a nanny?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open to doing?
  • Are you open to a live in arrangement in Copiague? Do you have experience being a live in nanny?
  • Are you open to being a nanny in a nanny share?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in Copiague?
  • Do you have a driver’s license in NY? Do you own a car?
  • What salary are you seeking? Are you open to being paid through direct-deposit, pay stubs?
  • What are your expectations around over-time pay and vacation time?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references, and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a prospective nanny, it’s essential to make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your nanny. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around nanny responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming! And of course, as you learn how to hire a nanny, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.
