Hi! My name is Michaela Smitherman. I am originally from Alabama and I moved here a few years ago. I am 22 years old and i have a 2 year old little boy. He is the light of my life. I have always loved babies/kids. I have 4 younger brothers and sisters, so growing up as the oldest i was always the babysitter as my mom and dad both worked to provide for us all. It really influenced my love for care giving. I am also a stay at home mom so my days are very flexible.

I have worked with children almost my entire life! I grew up in my mother's home daycare center. I worked in my church's nursery throughout high school and babysat for families here and there but my professional childcare career began in 2011 at a childcare center where I was the lead toddler teacher. I was responsible for the entire proceedings of my classroom; planning lessons, themes, art activities, and enrichments, organizing and planning play areas, taking charge over developmental goals, completing developmental assessments, conducting parent/teacher conferences, and facilitating a fun and safe learning environment. I learned so much in my time there. I was fortunate enough that most of ladies I worked with had anywhere from 12 to 30 years of childcare experience. They taught me a lot about how to channel my love for children into consistent and effective care. I treasure the experience along with the bonds I made with so many families that I got to care for inside and out of the daycare setting. After two years at the daycare I transitioned to being a nanny with a family that I had made a particularly strong bond with. I got to be involved in the boys' (ages 2 and 5 by my departure) development and overall lives. I spent time with their grandparents, cheered them on at swimming lessons, and spent birthdays with them. I even got to be there for their brand new baby sister to brought home (and cared for her when mom went back to work). While there I created structured themes with developmentally appropriate lessons for each child. We had broad themes like "Wild Animals" so that each boy could learn something they had a particular interest in along with it being age/developmentally appropriate. They relocated to Michigan after a job promotion. I was able to relocate with them for a short time to help with the transition.

I was born and raised in Bethel Park and currently live in the Peters/McMurray area with my Husband. I was a teacher (preschool through eighth grades). I ran the preschool program at a local elementary school. Since retiring early from teaching, I have been successfully and consistently employed as a Nanny for five different families, caring for newborns, as well as older children. As I am very active and have no health problems, caring for your little ones would be my top priority. (Outstanding references upon request).

I have never been an official nanny but I am a single mother of a 3 year old and have spent the last ten years working with children and families in the mental health field both as a direct care worker and as a licensed therapist after completing my masters degree.

Experienced Nanny Looking For Full Time Position I have been working in the childcare field for about 7 years now. Much longer than that if you count my years babysitting as a teenager. I started at a daycare working with infants and young toddlers. I moved to another daycare after that to start working with the older toddlers and preschoolers. That daycare unfortunately closed its doors so I had to move to another daycare where I eventually became the lead teacher of the 2-year-old room. I have experience with children from newborns to 10 years or so. I have experience creating a curriculum for toddlers/preschoolers. I enjoy singing, dancing, and doing crafts with the kiddos! I have taught the 5-year-old I nanny now to start reading, do basic math, and most things required for Kindergarten. I have been currently working as a nanny of two girls for over two years but both girls will be attending school full time in the fall so I am currently looking for a new position to start this summer/fall. I will get re-certified for my pediatric CPR certification on June 18th of this month. I will also have my state background check done for your convenience. My schedule is flexible as well as what you would expect me to do around the house.

Understand Nanny Responsibilities in Canonsburg, PA

Before beginning the search for a nanny, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a nanny is the right choice for your child care needs. In hiring a nanny, first, you should think through what responsibilities you expect your nanny to handle. With that information, you can create a profile so that nannies can reach out to you. The boundaries for nannies duties vary from family to family. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example, housekeeping or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your nanny before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location can impact how much you should pay your nanny.

Canonsburg Nanny Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective nannies, the next step is a nanny interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some nanny interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a nanny?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open to doing?
  • Are you open to a live in arrangement in Canonsburg? Do you have experience being a live in nanny?
  • Are you open to being a nanny in a nanny share?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in Canonsburg?
  • Do you have a driver’s license in PA? Do you own a car?
  • What salary are you seeking? Are you open to being paid through direct-deposit, pay stubs?
  • What are your expectations around over-time pay and vacation time?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references, and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a prospective nanny, it’s essential to make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your nanny. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around nanny responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming! And of course, as you learn how to hire a nanny, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.
