Melissa J. - Seeking Work in Waveland

A little bit about me

I have served as a public school educator/counselor for 32 years (mostly high school and middle school). I have a masters degree in psychology. I have two daughters, both are in college. I retired, but have returned to work in a school setting where I have some flexibility in my current job. I am off during the summer so I am available and flexible. I am also looking for a part time opportunity that would allow me to continue working in a job I love, but will allow me to provide a meaningful service to a busy family. I would be interested in before school and after school care for school age children. I could arrive early to assist with the morning routine and then get children to school. In the afternoons I would be available to pick children up from school, and at the end of the school day I could help with after school activities. I will be able to help with homework, meal prep and anything agreed upon that will be of assistance.

"From the very first day, Melissa was all in. She brought a fresh outlook to our school and was essential to our positive climate. She has basically run all of our activities for 19 years. She was also the glue that held us all together. When things are difficult, Melissa is steady and sees the light at the end of the tunnel. She is also extremely creative and talented. She is the person who can dream up the most outlandish plan and then successfully pull it off. When she left our school, it took 4 people to fill her shoes. I can recommend her highly enough."

How to Hire a Summer Nanny in Mississippi

Nanny Lane helps you find a summer nanny in Mississippi to take care of your children while school is out.

We offer nanny services including background checks, Agency, and nanny payroll. Start by posting a profile with a job description, and soon you can start connecting with nannies who fit your family.

What Is a Summer Nanny?

A summer nanny is a nanny who works during the school break, for the full summer or for part of it. Summer nannies are often teachers, college students, or experienced nannies who prefer seasonal work, so families can find help when school-age children are home during the day.

Common Responsibilities of Summer Nannies in Mississippi

Summer days are less structured than the school year. A summer nanny plans activities such as park visits, swimming, crafts, and day trips, prepares meals and snacks, and may take children to camps or classes. For younger children, they keep up the usual nap and mealtime routines.

What to Consider Before You Hire

Start your search early, since good summer nannies are booked quickly. Decide your start and end dates, your weekly hours, and whether you need flexibility around camps, vacations, or travel. Be clear about transportation, and about whether you need the nanny to drive. If your dates might change, say so up front.

Summer Nanny Interview Questions

Once you find a promising candidate, invite them for an interview to see if they would be a great fit for your family. Here are some questions you can ask:

  • Which dates are you available this summer?
  • Are you able to adjust if our dates or hours change?
  • What activities would you plan for the children during the day?
  • Are you comfortable driving, including to camps and activities?
  • Do you have experience with children of our children's ages?

At this stage, request their references and ask their references some questions. After preparing the job offer or contract, we recommend that you run a background check before the start date.
