What our background checks offer
Yes, we offer background checks for all states!
We perform up to six different screenings: SSN trace, Global watchlist, sex offender databases, National & Statewide & County criminal databases. We screen for felony and misdemeanor convictions in vehicles and traffic, statutory, drugs, statutory, criminal intent, security, fraud and detection, theft and property, sexual, violence, and homicide. Once you request a background check, you'll get a more detailed breakdown.
Most background check results arrive within a day after the nanny provides their information. Sometimes, the process takes longer for reasons discussed in more detail below.
We’ll email you once the nanny provides their information and as it is processed.
You can request a background check by going to the nanny’s profile you’re interested in and sending them a message letting them know you’d like to run a background check. After sending them a message, you should see a “Run Background Check” button at the top of their profile.
You can request a background check by going to our Background Check page and clicking “Run Background Check.” If you don’t already have a Nanny Lane account, we’ll ask you to provide some information. If you do, please log into your account. Then, we’ll ask you for some information about the nanny you’d like to run a request.
We offer background checks in two ways: 1) background checks sold individually, or 2) joining our PLUS membership and getting access to up to five enhanced background checks, nanny contracts, and our payroll service for $60/mo.
We'll notify you and the nanny if they haven't provided their information after seven days. If they still provide their information for the background check, then we cannot complete the background check.
If you pay for a background check individually, we issue a temporary hold on your credit card, which will only become a charge once the background check is complete. This means that if the nanny doesn't complete the background check, the hold on your card will go away in a few days and there will be no charge on your card.
After you request a background check, the nanny needs to accept your request and provide their information to our background check partner. Once they’ve provided their information, the background check process can begin. We encourage you to reach out to the nanny to let them know that they have been emailed instructions on how to proceed.
You’ll only be charged once the background check is completed. If you’re a PLUS member, background checks are unlimited.
After you request a background check, the request must be accepted by the nanny. The nanny can accept the request online or by email.
To accept online, the nanny can go to your conversation and click “Accept” in the message that notified them of the request.
They can also accept the request by email. They’ll have an email with the subject line “Action Required: Background Check Request from...”
Then, the nanny must provide their information to our background check partner. We encourage you to reach out to the nanny to let them know that they have instructions in their email on how to proceed.
Most background checks take under a day to complete after the nanny has provided their information. Sometimes, background checks take longer for various reasons: there can be court reporting delays, or our background check partner may need to follow additional legal requirements that take longer.
The nanny will always have the most current information on the background check status. If there is a delay, we encourage you to contact the nanny directly for information on the background check status.
Rest assured that you will be notified by email when the background check has finished.
Our partner company, Checkr, processes our background checks. Sometimes, they need to verify information with the nanny.
The nanny can start by submitting a ticket here. This form allows them to collect all of the information necessary for their team to be of assistance. They also offer a dedicated candidate help center where the nanny can find lots of informative articles about the background checks process and how to engage with our tools. If the nanny still needs help, they call them at (844) 824-3257. They're available Monday to Thursday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Pacific Time, and Friday from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Pacific Time.
Unfortunately, our background check provider does not offer background checks on minors for a few reasons. Minors are generally not able to legally provide consent. Even with parental/guardian consent, it is not advised. The majority of criminal records for minors are sealed, making them unattainable. Minors generally are unable to obtain credit until age 18, making credit and address history unlikely to exist.
Yes, our background check partner requires that the nanny has a social security number.
We’ll send you an email with the results of the background check. For security reasons, we only send the detailed background check report to nannies. If you are looking for the details of the background check results, please get in touch with the nanny directly.
Our background check partner, Checkr, ensures that our background checks are compliant with the FCRA (Fair Credit Reporting Act) as well as with local regulations.
