More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I was a Child and Family Advocate for a DV residential shelter in Kansas City. I worked with all children of all ages in the shelter by providing childcare services as well as hosting activities, crafts, groups, and field trips. I am currently working at a Montessori Preschool with children from 6 weeks old to 6 years old - I primarily work with infants 10 months old to 20 months old.
I also have past experience working as a babysitter for many families from my parent’s church or teachers from my school.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love doing crafts with the children and helping them explore their creative side. Art is a new and important part of STEAM learning and helps children utilize their fine motor skills, problem solving skills, and their skills of exploration. This is also a way for children to develop their confidence and have pride of the things they create!
I also enjoy lots of outdoor activities! In my previous position, in the summer time we would host water days with lots of water balloons and sprinklers, and nothing was better than hearing the kids giggle as they ran around in the water! Taking kids to the park and the zoo is also a great activity for both me and children!

The most important part about being a nanny...
Being an advocate for the children. Advocating for the safety, their needs, and their respect. Children deserve to be cared for and supported in a safe environment.
My experience with special needs children...
In the residential shelter, I worked with all of the kids including those with special needs. I don’t have much long term experience working children with special needs but I know being compassionate and patience are the most important values to approach childcare with.
I am a big believer that knowledge is key so I would do my own research to learn what methods of care are appropriate and what milestones and signs I would need to be aware of. I would also find resources available to me, the child, and your family in order to best support the care of the special needs child. From my work in the shelter, I am very familiar with what resources and programs are available in the Kansas City area and working with community partners.

One moment I will never forget is a child from the shelter telling me that they would never forget me! It made my heart melt and showed me that I was positive impact on her life!
