A little bit about me

Hello! I’m Alexa. I graduated from college in 2020 with a B.A. in psychology, and I am passionate about working with kids. I believe that childhood is a wonderful, magical, and sacred time, and that adults have a responsibility to protect it. I have spent my career so far doing exactly that— my previous two positions were working as a foster care case manager and as an early childhood mental health consultant through UVA’s statewide ECMHC program. While I am newer to professional childcare, I been babysitting since I was 14, and worked as a summer camp counselor every summer through college.

I am a hands-on care provider who can give your child the appropriate level of structure and guidance necessary to learn, be creative, and thrive 😊 I have experience helping children grow emotionally and behaviorally— i.e., teaching kids to express their emotions and needs with their words instead of their bodies ("meltdowns").

Any child-directed play! Make-believe scenarios, building, dolls--whatever they like. I personally love being outside and would love to take your little ones out as well, for walks, to visit the playground, ride their bikes, play catch, etc.

My experience with special needs children...

I have some experience with children who have special needs, namely T1 diabetes and autism (verbal, "medium-to-high functioning"). I also have some experience working with a child who is non-verbal, but points and makes sounds to communicate.
