I think the most important part is making sure to follow any instructions the parents give and practice proper communication. I want the families to feel comfortable leaving the kids around me. It is a scary world, and I want to radiate as much light and positivity as I can.
My experience with special needs children...
Honestly I have only had small experience with special needs. However, I enjoyed every minute of it. I would love to help care for them, and I am willing to listen and learn any steps that would make the parents feel comfortable.
The most important part about being a nanny...
My favorite nanny moment happened recently. I cared for 2 kids for years when I was in middle and high school. I watched them grow up. About a year ago, one of the kids contacted me and sent me a picture sleeping with a blanket I had given her a few years back. She told me she uses it and thinks about me all the time. This was very special to me.
