More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
For about 4 years I volunteered in Portland Public Head Start daycare (where my mom worked for about 6 years), helping out with meals, clean up, interacting with kids of all ages as well as doing activities indoors and outdoors. And I also worked at the MHCC head start program as a Classroom Aide with children ages 2-4.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I’m a huge nature enthusiast so I enjoy doing a lot of outdoor activities, I also enjoy getting their creativity going with drawing and writing. The rest I make up as I go 😅 depending on the likes of each kid.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Is attention and love. I think it’s very important to give attention to the child. Children are very curious and don’t know how to measure danger. That’s what adults are here for, if not payed proper attention they can get hurt, specially the infants and toddlers. And love... when the parents aren’t around, we’re around. As a nanny you should be able to act as the mother when the mother isn’t around and display the same amount of love and care as you would for you’re own child. Children can perceive when they are loved and that makes for a better behaved child.
The most important part about being a nanny...
As a childcare provider you never really have just one moment that reminds you why you love to do what you do. There are so many moments, whether you experience a child’s educational growth or witness they’re silly sense of humor, I’d say there are a lot of special moments. I’ve witnessed the educational growth of my kids at the head start program. I remember when the year started they were struggling to trace their names but there was that time in the middle of the year where some didn’t even need the tracer anymore; they were able to write they’re names by themselves on classroom projects. And seeing that and knowing that I helped him grow in some way, is a pretty special moment.
