I worked this past summer as a Lead Counselor at the Shipley School Summer Camp where I designed curriculum and led campers ages 5-11 through arts and crafts lessons. I have 5 years work experience as a cooking instructor at C’est Si Bon Cooking School in Chapel Hill, North Carolina where I organized and led week-long cooking classes for summer campers ages 8-14. I have also worked as a full-time nanny for multiple summers and provided regular care for several families in Durham, North Carolina throughout high school and college during the pandemic.

Through my experience working with children of all ages, I’ve learned the importance of clear and supportive communication, positive reinforcement rather than punishment, and honesty with both children and parents. I pride myself on my ability to assist with conflict resolution, and my general philosophy is grounded in the idea that all people want and deserve to feel seen, heard, and valued.

My experience with special needs children...

From [phone number hidden], I ran a club called HOMIES (Helping Others Make Incredible Experiences at School), which focused on the integration and inclusion of students with special needs, specifically students on the Autism spectrum. This club provided me with the wonderful opportunity to get to know and learn with a diverse group of students who did not have regular access to the same classroom education many other students in North Carolina received. This position gave me valuable experience and involvement with the barriers children and families with special needs encounter daily and taught me some valuable life lessons in how to roll with the punches and advocate for inclusion and accommodation.
