A little bit about me

Hi families! My name is Damaris, and I'm 23 years old. I'm currently studying Elementary Education at the University of Phoenix, with an expected graduation date of 2027.

I've been working with children since 2022, and I currently serve as a Paraprofessional at E. Roy Bixby Elementary School in Bogota, NJ, where I work in a special needs K-2 classroom. This role has deepened my patience, attentiveness, and ability to connect with children of all abilities.

I truly believe I was called to be a safe space for every child I work with, and that passion shows up in everything I do. I'm looking to expand my experience beyond the classroom, and I'd love the opportunity to be a trusted presence in your family's life.

Please note that I do not drive, but I am happy to come to you! My current availability is anytime Monday through Friday.

I hope you'll consider welcoming me in! 😊

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I've been working with kids for several years across multiple settings. I started in an elementary school, then spent two years in a preschool, and I'm currently a Paraprofessional in a special needs kindergarten classroom in Bogota, NJ, a position I've held since September 2025. I also babysit a little boy named Ryan four days a week, so I have plenty of one-on-one home care experience too.

Working in special needs has sharpened my patience, my ability to stay calm under pressure, and my consistency, which these kids truly depend on. I communicate openly with parents and take the trust they put in me seriously.

I'm also studying Elementary Education at the University of Phoenix, graduating in 2027. This isn't just a job for me, it's what I'm building my life around.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Reading and storytelling, I love making books feel like an adventure and kids always get into it.

Coloring and arts and crafts, honestly one of my favorites, we always end up making something so fun!

Writing and journaling, even the little ones, I get them drawing and scribbling their thoughts out.

Going outside, whether it's a walk, the park, or just running around, kids need that energy outlet.

Playing with animals, I teach them to be gentle and it's honestly the sweetest thing to watch.

Dancing and music, we put on a playlist and just have fun, it never gets old.

I like keeping it fun but I'm always sneaking in something educational too.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Being present. Not just physically there, but actually tuned in. Kids feel when you are just going through the motions and they feel when you genuinely care. Showing up consistently, being someone they can count on, and making them feel safe is everything. The rest comes naturally after that.

My experience with special needs children...

I have had some of my most meaningful experiences working with special needs children. It is not always easy, but it has made me a better person in ways I did not expect.

These kids taught me a patience I did not know I had and showed me what unconditional love actually looks like. They do not care about anything except whether you are truly there for them, and that simplicity changed me.

It is challenging work, but the challenges shaped me. I am calmer, more empathetic, and more present because of them.

Most importantly, I believe every child deserves someone to speak up for them when they cannot use their own voice. For me, that is not just a responsibility, it is an honor.

The most important part about being a nanny...

One of my favorite moments with Ryan happened when he started calling me auntie on his own. He is only 2 but he is incredibly smart and emotionally aware, so when that word came out it meant everything.

It told me he felt safe with me. Kids that young do not fake that, and knowing I earned that trust from someone so little but so perceptive is something I will never forget.
