A little bit about me

I am a 58 year-old retired mother of three. My kids are grown and flown, they are 28, 26 and 22. I worked for 33 years in the corporate world and I am now ready to get back to my roots, which was working with children. I babysat for 10 years, worked multiple daycare jobs, and got my degree in early childhood education. I substitute taught for 18 months before accepting a job in the corporate sector. I raised my children on my own as I'm a widow and used multiple nannies during that time. Because of my experience in employing nannies, I am aware of what it takes to be a good one. I have worked with children of all ages, but my passion is working with infants. When I was working daycare, I spent part of the time in the infant room so I also have experience working with multiple infants at one time. I believe that the most important thing for an infant is to make sure they feel safe and secure.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I started babysitting when I was 14 and continued doing so until I had my own children at 29. My summer jobs in both high school and college consisted of working with children. I worked in daycare centers and I coached swim team. I received my degree from William and Mary majoring in early childhood education and was certified to teach K through four. I substitute taught in Fairfax County for 18 months before accepting a job in the corporate world.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

This completely depends on the age of the child. For infants, I think the most important thing is to make sure they feel safe and secure. After that, it is dependent upon where they are in their development, which changes monthly if not daily. I would engage in age-appropriate activities, read books, sing and go for walks amongst other things. For older children it definitely depends upon their interest, but I love to read, help doing homework, and get interested in whatever their activities are.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Making sure the children are safe and feel that I am a safe person to be with.

My experience with special needs children...

I do not have any specific experience with special needs children other than I babysat for a child with cystic fibrosis and I have taught children in the classroom who were on the spectrum.

As much as I love all children, nothing can beat the experiences I had raising my three. Most definitely the most rewarding experience of my life is being a mother.
