I have taught in private child care facilities and private schools for the past 12 years in assistant as well as lead positions. I currently babysit several of my students on the weekends and after school hours. I am also an aunt to a 12 year old boy and a 3 year old boy both of whom I love very much and I love spending time with them! The majority of my work experience since high school has been working with children and it has been a pleasure!

I have worked with children in my school year job for 7 years, more details can provide; I have 2 summers 8 weeks as a summer camp director/RecPac camps program/fx county, and the remainder 8 wks as a Swim Camp Counselor. I have Summer Nanny experience for 3 Summers, each had 2 children, (ages from 1 to age 10). We stay in contact still as friends, 2 families have had a regular school yr nanny and they had to go away a summer, but not every summer so i was a fill in. The 3rd had family change event and with their divorce decided to split summer and stay home with their kids, she and I are personal friends now. Each family I participated in their sport events, swimming, places of interest, all kinds of fun, puppet shows, petting zoo, finding many parks, in MD and VA to explore, I can find and do anything the children and parents can desire. Cleaning, cooking, and children's laundry. Closet and drawers organized clothes purged and seasonal change overs.

As I stated before, I have been interested in childcare since I was a child, so I got babysitter certified and took my first CPR and First Aid class when I was thirteen. I started my first full-time nanny job in October of 2002 when I was just seventeen. I worked for a family that had three boys aged 1, 3 and 5. In February of 2004 they had a baby girl and I stayed on caring for these three children until May of 2007. I worked a few jobs over the next year, but none were as satisfying as working with children. In August of 2008 I applied to and was offered a job at The Goddard School as an assistant teacher for children ages 2-3. I absolutely loved this job and the opportunity to work with so many children at once. During this time I got my 90-hour certification in Early Childhood Development and attended many classes pertaining to teaching young children. The next year I moved to Austin, TX and began to nanny for new parents of 6-week-old twins. I was with this family for 5 years until the boys started going to school full-time. After that I took a year off from full-time childcare and did occasional babysitting for another set of toddler twins while also planning my wedding. My husband and I got married last year and now we have moved back to the East Coast to be closer to my family. I am hoping to find a new family to work with for full-time childcare for at least one, but preferably several years. If you think that I might be a good fit for your family, please send me a message and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Thank you for your time and good luck on your search for childcare!

My past childcare experience has been great. All the families I have worked for have always been very nice and their children always really like me. A lot of the families I have worked for I'm still in contact with them and their children. I have always loved working with children.

I have worked as a babysitter for as long as I can remember, even from a very young age I enjoyed taking care of kids younger than I was in the neighborhood. I have since worked for several loving families as needed over the past 7 years, including having helped to raise twin boys from birth through their toddler years.

Understand Babysitter Responsibilities in Reston, VA

Before beginning the search for a babysitter, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a babysitter is the right choice for your child care needs. There are lots of benefits to hiring a babysitter such as getting the flexibility of having some more time for yourself or with your partner. When hiring a babysitter, first, you should explore the differences between a nanny and a babysitter. If you’re looking for occasional child care, babysitters are the right choice for you, but if you’re looking for more frequent care, a nanny may be better for your needs.

From there, you can think about what you expect your babysitter to handle so that you can create a profile for nannies to reach out to you. The boundaries for babysitters’ duties can vary from family to family. However, in general, a babysitter is responsible for making sure your kids’ needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example to housekeeping, laundry, or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your babysitter before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location in Reston can impact how much you pay your babysitter.

Reston Babysitter Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective babysitters, the next step is to conduct an interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some babysitter interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a babysitter?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open and comfortable doing?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in Virgínia?
  • Do you have a Virgínia driver’s license? Do you own a car?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a babysitter that you’re considering hiring, make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your babysitter. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around babysitter responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming!

And of course, as you learn how to hire a babysitter, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.
