A little bit about me

Hey there, families! My name is Emily, I’m from the southeastern CT shoreline and have a deep passion for teaching children specifically from the lense of nature-based learning. I have experience in Montessori, Waldorf, and Reggio-Emilia based learning models with a wide range of ages. I resonate most with teaching and caring for children from a holistic perspective, and value their individual interests and needs. I love to get to know each child personally and what makes them light up! This goes for babies as well! While I love and appreciate predictable routines, I also acknowledge that children are growing humans that need us to be flexible as teachers and caregivers based on their current needs.

I would also like to share that I would love to work with a family that is able to be flexible with allowing me to bring my baby to work with me, as this is what we found would work best for our family. If you’re open to this, I’d love to chat!

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I frequently babysat for multiple families as a teen, worked in a traditional daycare setting for 4 years, and in my most recent position I have been a Preschool teacher of 3-4 year old children at a nature-based learning center for a little over a year!
In my babysitting experience, I have also learned a great balance between caring for infants while also being attentive in caring for a toddler and school aged child!

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

What makes my soul the happiest is when I’m outdoors with children and I can teach them new things based on their discoveries of natural elements and learn using them! Anything that has to do with the natural world I love to teach and make discoveries with children. I love to go on walks with them, take them to beautiful outdoor spaces, do yoga, read books, visit animals and more!

The most important part about being a nanny...

Taking advantage of the direct care you are able to give them by caring for and teaching a child based on them as a whole person considering personality, interests, temperament, and personal needs so that you can tailor their learning based on these things.

My experience with special needs children...

I have some experience with children that were on the path to getting diagnosed with autism at 2.5/3 years old. I had one child in my older toddler classroom who had special needs. I have participated in giving him one on one care and teaching when I could. I’ve also observed how his ABA interacted and helped him and we worked closely together for about 5 months and within that time she gave us some great advice and guidance.
