A little bit about me

My name is Gabriela, and I am a student at George Mason University. I have two sisters much younger than me, currently 4 and 1 years old. I believe this gives me a unique experience, as instead of only being around during certain hours of the day, I have experience with the whole day's routine: bathing, bedtime, waking up, dressing, playtime, tummy time, feedings all day, diaper changes to potty training, naps, etc. While I probably would not see your child through every activity of the day or stage in development, I feel it is valuable that I have experience with it all. More about me personally is that I am a Dean's List student planning on attending law school after graduation. I speak both English and Spanish. I am very tidy and organized, and I am a good cook. All throughout my grade school years, I took many art classes and even won competitions, this gives me a lot of experience which I now use to do arts and crafts with my sisters, and think of fun ideas for kids to do!

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

During the school years [phone number hidden], I cared for two elementary-aged kids in my neighborhood. I picked them up from the bus, fed them a snack, supervised their playdates, helped them with their studies, played outside in warmer months, and got them ready for after school activities such as gymnastics and tae kwon do, and more!

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Outdoors: going for a walk/bike/scooter, playing sports, chalk, tag, picnic, pool, etc.
Indoors: arts and crafts, legos, board games, movies, baking, dolls, video games, etc.

My experience with special needs children...

One of the elementary-aged kids I nannied was autistic. He was 9 at the time and very high functioning. I would spend extra time doing his homework with him and studying for tests. He usually liked to play by himself after school, but I would make sure to check on him and invite him to play with me and his sister, so that he would feel included but give him the choice to do as he wanted to unwind after the school day.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I'm not sure that I could pick a specific moment, but it would always warm my heart when kids gave me drawings, crafts or cards, and I still have them to this day. I babysat the daughter of my mom's boss, who was a single father. I think that was a unique opportunity as I was there to be more of a friend/role model and show her what an older girl/ young adult looked like and did. Every time I visit her I make sure to say I am spending time with her, not babysitting, because my role is to be more of a guidance figure or friend. I really do consider her a friend, and she even taught me how to play Minecraft and make crafts out of hot glue!
