More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
All 4 years of high school I worked in a community daycare. I worked 5 days a week before/after school. I also cared for and taught my own classroom of children for 6 months while in college.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I enjoy finding activities for them to do that is physical but also educational and enjoyable for both the child and I. Children's museums are always a big hit with me, and so are playing games at the park. Nature is a big component to our mental well being, even if it just means sitting outside and coloring or playing a board game. I adapt my activities based on the child's age(s), but I think anything outside is always a go-to.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Being able to understand the family and child you are working with, and working together as a whole to support and care for the child(ren).
My experience with special needs children...
I do not have a lot of extensive experience, but general experience and knowledge, along with a willingness to learn
The most important part about being a nanny...
When I was nannying a family with 3 elementary aged girls, one of them came home from school after having a really rough day. She walked into the house with a preset attitude, and I swear she was determined to make everyone around her feel her wrath. When I finally convinced her to come talk to me in the other room alone, so I could have an engaged conversation about her day, she told me the only thing that could make her feel better was baking cookies. So I got the other 2 girls, we set up a cookie train. One girl was helping me mix the batter and ingredients, the other helped me put the cookies onto the tray and the third helped me lay out the tin foil to set them on when they were done. Afterwards, the girls spent hours just decorating cookies while I cleaned the kitchen. At the end of the day I sat down with the girl who had the rough day at school and asked her how she was feeling, and she told me at 7 years old that she was grateful that she had someone to listen to her.
