Being a place of safety for a kiddo amidst critical developmental years. I get to be a safe person outside of the family unit that contributes to their development in a positive and uplifting way, contributing to their own flourishing. I do not take that lightly.
My experience with special needs children...
I nannied for a sweet little guy who was autistic. That summer I taught him how to read and write! We played baseball outside and sang songs around the house!
The most important part about being a nanny...
Nannying for a neurodivergent boy and teaching him how to read & write for a summer in college. Dance parties were a regular space of regulation together as we soothed from sensory overwhelm of loud noises & inevitable frustration that came with learning a new skill.
