A little bit about me

Hi - my name is Jasmine! I'm a rising junior at Old Dominion University aspiring to be a surgical physician's assistant! Currently, I am offering childcare services, however I am no stranger to pet care or even house maintenance--especially upon request!

While I may not have much professional experience with caretaking, I love everything about it! My experience working with children mainly comes from within my family, however I have additional experience with volunteer tutoring sessions across several age ranges spanning from elementary to highschool education. Usually, while I am supervising, I will implement time for fun and time for work, such as household chores or homework lessons, so that during playtime social interaction can be encouraged over screen-time!

I understand it can be scary putting the supervision and safety of your child in the hands of a stranger, and because of this I always enter my work with my best foot forward and promise to give my clients my best effort!

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Much of my experience with children (outside of family care) comes from volunteer tutoring, reading programs, and after-school SAC programs. Each of these experiences introduced me to the small, often-overlooked necessities that go into childcare--such as the ability to listen and even learn from the children you work with!

I believe when working with children, above all else, patience and empathy is key. Navigating the world is difficult as an adult, and even more difficult as a child experiencing the world for the first time! In all of my work with children, whether within my family or volunteering, I believe it is most important to create a safe space that encourages growth and exploration!

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

One of my favorite activities to do with children (and probably one of their favorites too!) is Just Dance! Really any game that incorporates movement and allows children to expel all that pent up energy! A close second would be finger painting. I do not mind a little mess if it means we're all having a good time, and in the end, we clean together as well! I think these create memorable bonding moments as well as teach children the responsibility to balance work and play!

The most important part about being a nanny...

Patience. As they say, children are like sponges and they soak up everything around them! The nature of their environment, as well as how the people and things around them nurture them, are incredibly important. While an adult may not remember a snippy remark or a crude response, a child will, and I believe the way we respond in instances where impatience could impact our words is key to establishing a healthy bond with any child! I try to remember that while some things may seem obvious to myself, to a child experiencing something for the first time there are obstacles that may seem strange, tempting, or a little confusing; really, having someone take a little extra time to help them navigate all these "weird" things makes them less daunting and more fun!
