i worked for a family that had an adopted son with fetal alcohol syndrome. along with that i’ve also worked with kids that have autism.
The most important part about being a nanny...
out growing families and send them to school has always been a hard thing to do as a nanny, but there have been multiple families whom outgrew my services that still keep in touch with me years later. my hardest split from a family happened 2 years ago when the family had to move across country on a whim. there was always a squirrel outside the playroom window in the morning so the daughter and i named the squirrel “mr. frankie”. i received a text from the mom one day saying her daughter saw “mr. frankie” in california, where they now reside, and thought of me. small moments like these make me realize the impact i have on kids and reminds me why i picked this field of work

I picked them up from school, or camp in the summer, took them home until their mom or dad would come home. I helped them with their homework, gave them snacks, played with them, took them to activities, made sure they were safe. After about a year or so they had two small dogs, I took care of them, and still do. I stayed with these children till they were 18 and 15 years old. My last position was with a 4 year old girl and 9 year old boy that ended because the mom was going to work only from home. Before that, a 4 year old girl.
