More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I spent the past year substitute teaching for elementary school children. At one point I had picked up a one day shift teaching first graders that ended up going on for three months. I became attached to the kids and wanted them to have stability so I just kept agreeing to come back. I learned so much about everything—truly! I get kids and enjoy their company, especially as an artist! They are inspiring and full of odd ideas that I love to entertain. I had one kid who was obsessed with space and would stand by me chatting my ear off about facts I had never heard. It was sweet and I was happy to allow him to express his interests. Plus now that I am a few months removed from that, I can reflect on ways I would approach it now. Like maybe I could have found space worksheets for him to do that kept him entertained and allowed him to sit still. But that was the growth, because I can now take all of that knowledge on what is essentially pure human behavior, and transcribe it to everything!
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Since I am an artist I love doing arts & crafts or singing silly songs or playing pretend. I love to tap into my imagination and go into the space of play we create. I'm an abstract artist so a lot of the time I will paint with children, or make clay sculptures, or science experiments. I am someone who is constantly seeking joy so doing these kinds of activities are my favorite. Sometimes we will host a tea party, or have a fashion show. When going outside we might play in the yard, or in the sandbox. Sometimes we swim in the pool. I am a born and raised Floridian so swimming is my second nature. I was jumping off the YMCA diving board at two. I love going to the park and watching animals. The museum, especially kids museums are a great activity. And somedays just a nice walk around the neighborhood is refreshing.
The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important part of being a nanny is creating a safe relationship based on care, love, and kindness.
My experience with special needs children...
When I was substituting I had a few students who were neurodivergent. I myself am neurodivergent so I can understand what the child may be experiencing. I had a few students with autism who would shut down and I would have to soothe them through the transition. I was very patient with them. I had one student that was an adorable six year old who would cry every single day, and had been the whole year. Within the three months of being his substitute he had stopped scream crying and was easy to regulate. It took me a month to get him there but I was impressed because his actual teacher couldn't get him there. But I was just understanding and would make eye contact with him, rub his back and validate his pain. Because most neurodivergent kids are just experiencing life a bit more intensely and need to be seen for that. I have cared for autistic children before but do not have much more experience with special needs outside of that.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Anytime one of my kids creates something artistic I feel so proud!

Babysitter Available in New York, NY: Alyssa P.
I'm 27 years old, a life long artist of all mediums, and a lover of physical sports, as well as creative gavels top games. I am excellent at multi tasking, was a lifeguard at just 16 so I have baked in knowledge of CPR, swim safety, and taking command during emergency situations big and small. I love traveling and helping kids maintain their wonder of discovering the world while also being safe, and trying to keep them off screens. I grew up as the eldest cousin on both sides of my family, and baby sat growing up consistently. I studied communications, art, and psychology in university and outside of it for my own edification, so making sure I can do right by others and myself is important to me.
