A little bit about me

My name is Trina and I have been a teacher and nanny for the past 7 years. I graduated from UW-Madison with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, with a focus on Child Development. I moved to NYC in 2018 to continue my teaching career as a nonprofit educator. I worked with children from K-12 in all 5 boroughs, many with special needs. I then started working for Brooklyn Heights Synagogue preschool as a teacher for 3 years, including during the pandemic. I have babysat and taught children of all ages and abilities and feel very confident in my ability to provide a safe, child-centered, nurturing environment for every child. I have a warm, grounding energy that helps children feel at ease. I hope to pursue a Master's in special education or social work, but currently in my spare time, I read, do yoga, cook and play music. Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have worked professionally as a teacher for over 5 years, teaching children from toddler to high school age. I have taught full classrooms, worked with teacher teams, created curriculums and lesson plans, collaborated with staff and families, and learned how to be a most supportive guide for children of all backgrounds and abilities. I also have volunteered assisting children within the classroom, helping them with reading activities and arts and crafts. I feel very comfortable and confident with my ability to connect with children in school and home settings and to meet them at their level. I have worked with children with a variety of special needs and feel able to provide a safe, nurturing, and fun environment for every child I meet.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I'm very physically active so I love outdoor activities with children! I love walking through parks, biking, doing yoga, swimming, and playing all active games. I also enjoy quieter activities such as playing music, singing, drawing, painting, and reading. I love teaching children more about music and yoga, two of my biggest passions. Regardless of the child's interests, I feel confident that we can engage in really fun and productive activities together!

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important part about being a nanny is working with the family in a way that optimizes the quality of life for the child and their sphere of care. Honesty, communication and trust are integral for the family and nanny unit to ensure that the child feels cared for. As a caretaker and teacher, it is my top priority to always remain patient and willing to learn. I believe that there is so much to learn from each child, so I strive to be the most nurturing, accommodating and open-minded I can be in order to ensure that the child and family feel safe and supported.

My experience with special needs children...

I have worked with children with special needs of all ages. I have assisted children with autism, behavioral challenges, OCD, sensory processing disorders, cerebral palsy, and cognitive disabilities. I feel very comfortable helping children with special needs and want to pursue special education in the future.

The most important part about being a nanny...

My favorite nanny moments are always about the smallest moments. One of my favorite moments was taking one of my kids to a park in Brooklyn during the sweltering summers. We would have so much fun laughing and running through the sprinklers to cool down, and would always get ice cream afterwards. The moments where we experience pure joy like this are my favorite, and they remind me of why I started working with children in the first place.
