Hello, my name's Krista, and I'm a professional nanny and reading tutor. I have experience working with children ranging in age from newborn to thirteen years old. I love having the opportunity to give them individualized attention. I engage with and entertain them using toys, games, books and a variety of other fun, entertaining and educational activities while closely supervising them in an age-appropriate environment to maintain their safety. More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have done extensive volunteer work with children at an elementary school. I've also worked as a reading tutor and have been a live-in nanny as well as a babysitter for many families both in my home state of Minnesota and the Washington, D. C. area. I started babysitting preschool age children when I was a teenager, and I became a full-time, live-in nanny when I was 23. I've taken child development classes and am willing to take CPR and first aid if the family requires it and would be willing to pay for it within the first few months after hiring. I have experience with children from newborns to 13-year-olds, including bottle feeding infants, preparing light meals for toddlers and school-age children, ensuring their safety/hygiene, and managing behavior. I communicate with the parents as well and work as a team player to ensure their peace of mind and their children's safety at all times. My combined experience both paid and volunteer makes me an excellent choice for the right family.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I enjoy reading aloud, puzzles, board games, coloring, going for walks, swimming, taking children to the park and other pre-approved outings and activities.

I enjoy being a nanny because I love children, and having the opportunity to be a part of their daily lives, learning and development is such an honor.

My experience with special needs children...

I am sorry, but - to be honest - I've mostly cared for typical children. My experience with special needs children is very limited to babysitting on an ocassional, as-needed basis for children on the autism spectrum such as for a few hours in the evening or on a Saturday, and often a typical sibling would be there to help calm the chlld and maintain a sense of continuity. I am a very quick learner, though, and am potentially willing to consider a position with a special needs child if it were otherwise a great fit; however, I understand that many children who have special needs require a caregiver who has specialized training and experience that I do not have, and that caring for children who have special needs is often very different than caring for typical children. I also know that parents of children with special needs themselves usually had no experience with children who have special needs prior to having a child with special needs, and I'd consider it if were a good fit, thanks.

The most important part about being a nanny...

A one-year-old boy I took care of in the nineties picked up the landline and said, "Hello, Mommy!" A three-year-old girl I was a live-in nanny for liked to feed the cherries to her toy tyrannosaurus rex when we played Hi-Ho Cherry-O! A two-year-old boy I nannied was still learning a lot of new words, and one afternoon he picked up a basketball while we were playing in the driveway, and said, "Basketball!" A four-year-old boy repeated a knock-knock joke that I'd told him to a mom at the park. Then the woman's daughter, who was about the same age and wearing an orange dress, asked him to go up the steps of the slide with her, and he bowed to her and said, "Of course, absolutely!" I told my employer about it when she got home from work; she replied, "He loves flowers and little girls!" Another favorite nanny moment was when - on a day off - I babysat a four-year-old girl, and before I left, she opened the back door of her parents' house, picked a dandelion and gave it to me. That's a lot!
