Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I babysat for a couple who had just recently adopted two little brothers; ages 2 and 4. The two sweet boys came from a damaged household and needed a lot of work with their communication skills, and abandonment problems. I worked closely with the boys for about two months while the couple went through the legal process of adoption. I showed them extreme love and genuine care, while working with them to get comfortable in their new environment.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
For babies and toddlers I’ll typically balance out playing their favorite games with some games I’ve created to learn colors, numbers, etc. I also like to actively teach and practice manners and help with potty training if necessary.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I think one of the most important things about nannying is remembering to have fun with the children, and still being able to reinforce necessary discipline if needed! Making sure the child(ren) feels safe, comfortable, and happy with me is extremely important!
My experience with special needs children...
I nannied for a family-friend when I was 15-16. I watched a twin boy and girl and their younger autistic brother, Jackson. I started caring for him when he was 5 years old. He struggled with speech, listening to directions, and only wanted to eat one specific food everyday for every meal. In the two years I cared for him I was able to help him try other foods and incorporate them into his meals as well as watched him improve dramatically with his communication skills.
The most important part about being a nanny...
One of my favorite moments in nannying was after about 4 weeks of caring for two newly adopted boys, the older one began telling me “I love you miss Alexis!” Which immediately brought tears to my eyes as I could see how happy I made him.
