More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
Relevant experience includes my current roles as a church nursery volunteer, caring for infants and toddlers, and a backup nanny, providing flexible, on-call childcare. I’ve worked as a private nanny, building strong relationships with families and adapting my care to meet each child's needs. I’ve also gained experience in preschool classrooms and daycare centers, focusing on development in cognitive, social, and emotional areas, and providing care for children with special needs. In addition to my nannying roles, I’ve done occasional babysitting for over 20 years, worked as an assistant party host for themed birthday parties, and volunteered at week-long summer camps. Throughout all my roles, I prioritize creating a safe, nurturing environment and fostering independence and growth for every child in my care.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I enjoy planning a variety of activities that encourage hands-on learning and foster independence. For younger children, I love setting up sensory bins, art projects, and music and movement activities, allowing them to explore and develop their creativity. For older children, I enjoy planning STEM-based activities, like building simple machines or experimenting with basic science concepts. I’m a big believer in child-led learning, so I prioritize allowing kids to guide their own play, whether through pretend play with building blocks or outdoor exploration. I also love incorporating local outings, like trips to the grocery store or nature walks, to give kids the chance to experience learning in real-world settings. These outings help develop important skills such as responsibility, decision-making, and social interaction, all while keeping learning fun and organic.
The most important part about being a nanny...
is building a strong, trusting relationship with the children and their families while ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for growth. I believe in fostering independence, encouraging creativity, and supporting each child’s unique developmental journey. It’s also essential to communicate openly with parents to create a partnership in caring for their child.
My experience with special needs children...
I have cared for children with a range of special needs, including preschoolers with ADHD and ASD, a preschooler with albinism and vision impairment, a toddler with dwarfism, a teenager with cerebral palsy (CP), and an elementary-aged child with autism. I’ve also supported multiple children with food allergies and dietary restrictions, ensuring safe and inclusive environments. My experience has taught me the importance of patience, adaptability, and tailored approaches to meet each child’s unique needs while fostering their growth and independence.
The most important part about being a nanny...
One of my favorite nanny moments involves the many wacky things my former toddler charge said, like requesting a "special treat" for quiet time—despite never having been offered sweets at that time! There was also the time the younger child gave his dad step-by-step instructions for getting salsa: “turn around, walk, open." I’ll never forget the toddler trying to get me in trouble hours later by claiming, "Lissa did it!" after I removed items from his room during quiet time to ensure his safety. To this day, I’m still close with the family, and my former employer often shares how the 3-year-old corrects his older brother by saying "MAY I" instead of "Can I?" or how the 6-year-old teaches his younger brother phonics—like "P is for Pterodactyl." It’s these little moments that remind me of the lasting impact I’ve had on their lives.

Majority of my life I took care of children in my neighborhood. I was really big of sports events and anything that helped children learn about team building and building integrity. I grew up with seven siblings and I have always taken care of them and my nephews. I love and adore the kids in my family and seeing the joy I fill their hearts with. My younger sister was born with a sickle cell disease and cerebral palsy. Life was very hard for her and I took care of her majority of her childhood. This is what lead me to become a residential assistant “nanny” for children and adults with mental and physical disabilities. I did this for about two years and I basically helped them with medication and everyday activities. I am also a kid at heart myself and it brings me joy engaging in activities and going on adventures with them. I can be pretty motherly as far as the safety of young ones. I am a chef as well so I love to cook for kids too and bake. It brings me joy when they ask if they can help me make a dish it is another way to teach them how to eat properly and learn new words. Overall kids are a joy to be around.
