More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I have worked as a youth dance instructor! I provided instruction and supervision to children ages 2.5 to 7-years-old in classes of 5 to 15 students at a time.
In this position, I developed syllabi and taught weekly dance classes in several genres, including ballet, jazz, hip hop and creative movement. These classes advanced in terminology, skills and technique throughout the school year.
I also designed and lead 3 to 6-week-long summer camp programs that included choreographed dance routines, related crafts, games and storytelling.

The most important part about being a nanny...
Is safety and personal connections! I firmly believe that building trust and understanding with the children and parents I work with is the key to a great working relationship.
My experience with special needs children...
I have 4+ years of experience with special needs children.
In my most recent nanny position, I cared for 1 child with special needs from age 8 to 12.
I encouraged non-traditional communication through a speech tablet, and created prompts for discussion of new vocabulary. I also effectively incorporated new vocabulary into games, activities and outings.
Additionally, I provided instruction and built confidence in new and existing fine and gross motor skills, including independent eating, walking up and down stairs, swimming, handwriting, expressing needs and desires using speech tablet and independent investigation into questions.
Lastly, I created an environment to generate emotional and sensory regulation by using breathing techniques, verbal de-escalation and mind-body awareness.

The most important part about being a nanny...
My very first day working with one family, I was doing the bedtime routine. The kids were brushing their teeth when the 4-year-old child I was working with decided he desperately needed to wash his hair, and proceeded to stick his entire head under the bathroom sink faucet.
He is now in middle school(!), and to this day, his family and I still laugh about that night whenever we re-connect. He was such a sweet and curious kid who has grown into a smart and kind teenager!
