A little bit about me

I am currently a freshman majoring in education and minoring in special education at the University of Oregon. I love kids and have babysat my own two siblings and other kids basically as long as I have been able to! Additionally, I graduated from and helped to develop a future educator program at my high school in my hometown in which I would frequently write lessons, and teach classes of students of all ages as volunteer and class work. I have been volunteering in special education classrooms since I was 12 and it is definitely something I am passionate about. I also worked as a summer school teacher in 2021. I currently hold another part time job as a barista and also have classes during the day so my availability definitely depends on the day and is subject to change periodically, however I am willing to work around schedules as best as I can!

I love to play games, cook and bake, go to the park, and read! In high school I spent a year in my program specifically learning about how to effectively teach children to read as well as evaluating and developing lessons around children’s books.

My experience with special needs children...

First, one of my siblings that experienced severe anxiety which resulted in selective mutism when they were young. I am comfortable and passionate working with children with things such as anxiety for this very reason. Aside from that, I have been a frequent volunteer in special education classrooms since middle school. This experience has been one that has been so special to me. Not only have I gained valuable experience through it all, but I have also gained friends and connections to peers within the classroom. This has been one thing that pushed me to minor in special education. My greatest desire in life is to hopefully one day own and operate a cafe in which I can specifically employ and help integrate individuals with special needs into the work force in a caring and considerate environment. I would be open and comfortable with working with children with special needs!
