More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I’ve had hands-on experience caring for children in various settings. I’ve taken care of my 6-year-old brother and 12-year-old sister on and off, sometimes along with their friends. Additionally, one of my former roommates had two boys, aged 9 and 11, and I would often watch them. The 9-year-old even told me he wished I could live with them forever! Taking care of children has always come naturally to me, and I love building those meaningful connections with them.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I enjoy spending quality time with kids through a variety of activities, including:
Reading books together
Playing with toys like LEGOs and RC cars
Teaching new concepts and fostering critical thinking
Watching age-appropriate movies and playing video games (in moderation)
Physical activities like jumping on trampolines, playing tag, and kickball
Imaginative games like cops and robbers and play-fighting
Board games such as D&D, Magic: The Gathering, Monopoly, Chess, and Risk
Exploring the outdoors through hiking and other activities

My experience with special needs children...
My little brother, who is 6, likely has high-functioning autism, and I’ve helped care for him frequently. He enjoys our time together and often tells me he wishes I could live with him permanently (unfortunately, I can’t). I’ve also experienced life with autism myself, although most people wouldn’t know it. I’ve even worked in door-to-door sales to challenge myself socially, and I succeeded in that role.
Additionally, I’ve mentored a close friend with low-functioning autism whom I met at a youth shelter in Colorado Springs. We were both 18 at the time, and he was constantly told he couldn’t succeed. Over time, I helped him gain confidence, start working as a day laborer, and eventually join me in door-to-door sales. Today, he works as a caregiver for the elderly, and he’s told me that without my support, he wouldn’t have made it. This experience was profoundly meaningful to me, reminding me of the importance of guidance, patience, and belief in others.

I am ready and we'll equipped to stimulate and nurture children in any situation...however, I do expect a certain amount of participation and respect from those in my care. I'm a very safe driver and acquainted with the road conditions and I am also a fantastic cook and former professional housekeeper.
I do have some physical limitations, due to an old back injury, but I don't need to take medication, but prefer to have a little time to do a little yoga and or pilates which has helped tremendously. That being said, I cannot pick up small children on a regular. I try to sit down for hugs. I'm 47 years old and have lived in Nederland for close to 2 years. I have been working that time at Busey Brews as the kitchen manager.
