For the past 10 years of my life I have experienced many different positions. During my early teen years my sister had her first baby, my niece. Since she was born, I have always looked after her and taken care of her as a loving aunt. My brother then had a baby and because of the actions and responsibility I took with my niece, he asked me to do the same with my nephew. My brother and sister would share the word with their friends and I was being offered many babysitting posistions. I gladly accepted them and never turned down a single opportunity. I baby sat all different age groups ranging from newborn to 7 year olds. My younger sister just gave birth to a baby girl in October. I was fortunate to be there every step of the way with her and when she brought baby home, of course I stayed with her to help her out as being a new mom. I am very familiar with all different age groups, especially with the infant/toddler ages. I have also worked in different day care centers as a volunteer and enjoyed the challenges that the children brought to my attention. To this very day I still babysit and watch after children. I have had the amazing opportunity to work with my brother who has cerebal palsy. He is one year older than me but he needs to be taken care of in every way of a toddler. Also I have had the expereince of working with a child who has autism. I am well aware of the different needs with children who have disabilities and I am so grateful to have the knowledge that I do working with children that at times are not so fortunate. Just recently my younger sister had a baby girl and at 5 months we found out that she had SMA type 1, we lost her at 9 months old but during her time with us I was fortunate to spend as much time with her as I could. I became very aware of what SMA was and the conditions that it came with. It was very tough to watch my niece stuggle with this disease and eventually take her life. It was a life learning experience and opened my eyes to a whole new aspect to children. I cherish them and dont take thier lives for granted. After losing her, I have a whole new understanding of what it is to really take care of children and others.
