Makayla S. - Seeking Work in Lafayette
Makayla S.
Lafayette$22.85/hr  |  < 1 yr experience
Hello, my name is Makayla and I'm 19 years old. I have many years of experience with children. I have watched my little sisters for many years. When I was 11 I took a babysitting class at a local YMCA where i learned basic skills. I made friends with some of the older teens that were in and teaching the class and they would take me with to go babysit with them when they could so I could learn from experience. After i turned 12 I started babysitting on my own regularly and did that through the age of 15. In high school I took a child development class and got CPR, hymlic and first aid certified for infant, child and adult. I then also took a living on your out class that covers a child part. through these years I continued babysitting. In the summer of 2013 I became a nanny for a woman in Lafayette, CO who had 2 children who were 7&9. Dylan was 7 and he had Down syndrome and was a flight risk so I've had experience with disabilities also. That was for about 6 months and then the dad had to move for work and so i started working at a babies clothing store in a mall. It was a job that involved kids but it wasn't a care job and that was what I really wanted. I then started getting more babysitting jobs for occasional help but I wanted something more steady so I worked for a family with 4 kids (ages 2 through 12) as a nanny. They only needed me a short time so I worked here and there. I am now working with a family and the job ended July 15 2014 so I need to find something new to start soon. Most of my experience is with 2 year olds but I have watched children from newborns-14. I also have watched up to 5 children at one time. I do have a lot of experience for someone my age. I want to become part of a family and would love to hear more about what u need. Jason (my dad)- can attest to classes iv taken and I grew up watching my sisters.

Stacey S.

Stacey was very reliable, engaged with the children, and a peace of mind to have. I preferred not to leave my kids with a teenager or someone too young with not enough experience. Stacey did well with my both my infant and five year old. She formed an incredible bond with them that they looked forward to spending time with her. - Elise

Understand Nanny Responsibilities in Lafayette, CO

Before beginning the search for a nanny, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a nanny is the right choice for your child care needs. In hiring a nanny, first, you should think through what responsibilities you expect your nanny to handle. With that information, you can create a profile so that nannies can reach out to you. The boundaries for nannies duties vary from family to family. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example, housekeeping or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your nanny before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location can impact how much you should pay your nanny.

Lafayette Nanny Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective nannies, the next step is a nanny interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some nanny interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a nanny?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open to doing?
  • Are you open to a live in arrangement in Lafayette? Do you have experience being a live in nanny?
  • Are you open to being a nanny in a nanny share?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in Lafayette?
  • Do you have a driver’s license in CO? Do you own a car?
  • What salary are you seeking? Are you open to being paid through direct-deposit, pay stubs?
  • What are your expectations around over-time pay and vacation time?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references, and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a prospective nanny, it’s essential to make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your nanny. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around nanny responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming! And of course, as you learn how to hire a nanny, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.
