Currently, I work in advocacy for children and youth in foster care, tutor Spanish to a 6 and 8 yr old sibling pair, do pick-up for an 11 yr old from bus stop, and do ESL tutoring with an 8 yr old. Previously, I have worked in two city public high schools, worked in a classroom setting with youth with disabilities, was a nanny for a 12 yr old with medical needs and disabilities, and was a kid's yoga and mindfulness instructor for kids aged 4-10.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I enjoy working with and supporting children's health social-emotional development and getting to see their personalities and selves blossom and emerge in various activities and interactions. Even when I tutor, it's adaptive with games and silliness to help meet them at their age, developmental stage, and mood. I can do educational games and lessons, fun park or adventure outings, cultural and community exposure, self-esteem building activities, arts-based activities, sports and outdoors, cooking and baking, etc.
My experience with special needs children...
I have four cousins on the autism spectrum disorder and an older sibling as well. In high school, I worked in a classroom supporting preteens and teens who were diagnosed with down syndrome or cerebral palsy. I've worked with kids and teens with various mental health and behavioral needs, some who required more intensive support and 24/7 care. I've also worked with kids and youth with physical disabilities (such as prosthetics), children with medical needs like diabetes, with dyslexia or delayed speech, and neurodivergent teens.
