Hi! My name is Sofia Carrasco. I am a recent graduate of Washington & Jefferson College with degrees in French and International Studies. I am looking to work as a bilingual nanny (English/ Spanish/ French) for a nice family while I study for my law/grad school exams. Spanish is my native language, I learned English through living and going to school in the US, and I learned French through my university and my time spent in France. More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Most recently I was an active babysitter for a 5 year old girl. She suffered some medical complications as a baby and also had a rough childhood regarding her parents. When I spent time with her I was in charge of teaching her to read letters and write things like her name. We also worked on motor functions through crafts and outdoor activities like running. Fortunately, I was able to see a great deal of growth in our time together. She will now start kindergarten with children her own age.
I also served as an after-school tutor for under-resourced children at the LeMoyne center, next to my university. I was in charge of after-school games as well as homework help for grades 1-8.
I also continue to babysit a family of five children. I began babysitting them when I was 16 and there were only 3 children. My focus is mainly on the three youngest children (the older two generally keep themselves occupied). I cook meals, feed the baby, and try to keep everyone at peace and entertained.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I was an athlete through college so I enjoy any fun outdoor activities-- sports, games, even just sitting outside and reading. I also enjoy arts and crafts; I think when children make things with their hands it is an easy way for them to de-stress and express themselves creatively. I enjoy cooking and baking as well.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Personally, I think the most important job about being a nanny is making life easier for the parent/s or primary caregivers. Especially right now, as we live through a time of great uncertainty, I think being a nanny comes with the privilege of perhaps relieving the family of a bit of stress so that everyone can feel a little bit better about the world right now.
Regarding nannying itself, I think creating a trusting bond with children, based on mutual respect and and kindness is incredibly important. When you have trust in the relationship, the children can truly start to bloom and you can often see the fruits of your labor-- in happier children, in improved academics, in children becoming more outgoing or confident in themselves.. the list goes on.
