Hi families! My name is Sweeney Appiah, and caring for children has always been a big part of my life. I grew up in Alexandria, VA, where my mom has run her own daycare for 18 years. Being her daughter meant I was surrounded by little ones from the start; helping out, learning patience, and gaining hands-on experience with children of all ages. Because of that upbringing, childcare feels second nature to me. I love creating fun, safe, and nurturing environments where kids can learn, play, and grow. From reading stories and doing crafts to helping with homework or keeping up with active toddlers, I enjoy meeting children right where they are and giving them the attention they deserve. I have years of hands-on experience caring for children of all ages, beginning with helping at my mother’s licensed daycare in Alexandria, VA, where I grew up assisting with infants, toddlers, and school-age kids. From feeding, diapering, and naptime routines to homework help, crafts, and outdoor play, I learned early on how to create a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for little ones. In addition, I’ve provided babysitting for local families, supporting with day to day preparation, bedtime routines, and fun activities, which has allowed me to build strong, trusting relationships with both children and parents.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Some of my favorite activities to do with children include reading stories together, arts and crafts, playing outside, and exploring nature. I also enjoy helping with educational games, puzzles, and creative play that spark imagination and learning. For younger children, I love singing songs, building with blocks, and sensory play, while with older kids I enjoy cooking simple recipes, helping with homework, and encouraging hobbies that make them feel proud and confident.
