One of the most important parts about being a nanny is having the privilege and opportunity to protect their innocence and truly show them all that the world has to offer for them while providing unconditional love and support for their little minds as they develop over the years.
My experience with special needs children...
Through my career as an RBT, all of our children had the mutual diagnosis of autism with some having other diagnoses such as ADHD, OCD, ODD, etc. Many of our children were nonverbal or had speech and language delays in which us technicians are trained in the use and implementation of PECS, general sign language, and AAC devices.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Taking one of the children I nannied for to the Nature Center in Western North Carolina for the first time. He ran around to all the different animal exhibits labeling each animal and their sounds as best he could based off one of his favorite books we read together in the home that played the sounds of each animal when pressing on the picture. Watching his face light up and seeing the progression of his speech and labeling abilities is something I will never forget.
