A little bit about me

I am a skating instructor/hockey coach, I mainly work with kids between 4-12yrs old. I'm currently between coaching jobs due to knee surgery and can't make ends meet. I'm back with my 81yr old dad who is mostly active but has some health issues. He's still pretty independent but sadly that is changing.
I'm hoping to be on boarded with a new program soon but I'm being told it might be December before I get any lessons.
I have been first aid/cpr certified in the past but I can't afford to pay for any more classes or training after getting all my coaching certs renewed.
Same goes for my background check. I'm USA hockey and Learn to Skate certified, this includes background checks and SafeSports certified.
In the past I have done child care outside of sports off and on for years, mainly for neighborhood families. This included food prep, homework help and a little light house keeping.
Got a clean driving record and an extended cab Silverado, if parking is an issue I can snag dads SUV.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I coach youth hockey and teach skating lessons, I typically work with children, preteens/teenagers.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Open to doing any activities with kids, I have a sports background but have no problem with arts and crafts or story time.
I really enjoy helping with homework, I have been known to cancel a skating lesson to help my skaters who struggled academically. I'm also a 3d printing nerd (not to be confused with Joel Telling "The 3d Printing Nerd") I have been known to 3d print math manipulatives for for youngsters to help them with math. i struggled with math as a kid and these tools would have been super helpful!

The most important part about being a nanny...

Nannying is more than just being a babysitter, you are playing an active roll in a child's development.
On or off the ice this roll is extremely important to me and I take great pride in giving kids tools to set them up for success.

My experience with special needs children...

I have some experience with kids who are on the spectrum. Most of my experience is with kids who are verbal though, I have very limited experience caring for nonverbal kids or kids needing more skilled care.
I am dyslexic and ADHD myself have had a lot of success helping my skaters with ADHD or are dyslexic. I also worked with kids who had anxiety too.

The most important part about being a nanny...

About 30yrs ago I was a nanny for a toddler of a Japanese family across the street from me. She mostly spoke Japanese so communication was a bit interesting at times. We developed our own way of communicating through gestures. She made up a hide and seek kind of a game and everything we did together she always threw her hands up and yelled YATTA!
Both of us were teaching each other and it always amazed me how someone so young was teaching me. Those days were some of my favorite memories of child care.
