I have loved working with children since I was a child. Growing up, I used to help my mom when she would babysit. Then, when I was about 12, I started babysitting on my own. I'm now 18, have recently graduated high school, and have been working on and off with children (and infants) ever since. I've had the most experience with infants (0-11 months) and toddlers (12 months-3 years). I love pets too! I have had a grand variety of pets growing up and love them all! I may be young, but I've had so much experience with children/babies that not giving me a chance would be a missed opportunity.

Since the age of thirteen I have been watching my four younger siblings. This included over summer and during the school year. I cooked them lunch and dinner. Completed household chores and broke up the many of fights children happen upon. As well as watched a six year old after school. This required me to help him with his homework and other miscellaneous chores. When a close neighbor of mine had her first child I was the first person she would call for a babysitter. They now have two sons ages four and two. I cared for them in a specific way helping to insure the children understood the rules still applied with me watching them. Although between bottles and diapers there was still time to play and I was gladly down on the floor with them every time. As the boys got older I cooked them dinner and got them ready for bed always tucked in right on time. They could be a handful but I have never minded the challenge.

I have experience in nannying infant twins from 2 wks. on, I have baby sat through my middle and high school years, and most recently I was an assistant teacher for preschoolers/toddlers at a daycare. I am CPR and First Aid certified, able to swim and very energetic. I've done a lot of volunteer work for my church that involved childcare too (nursury, youth team member, peer councelor (12-15), VBS teacher (1-4), music teacher (piano 1-12), etc.)

Thank you so much for your interest in me as a nanny candidate for your children. I would like to take a moment to tell you a little about myself and my child care approach. I have always enjoyed being around children, and have cared for them in a multitude of settings, raging anywhere for babysitting, homeschooling and my kindergarten classroom. I personally believe in a positive approach to everything with children. I give children, firm, but age appropriate limits, and use positive discipline, and active listing to help reinforce them. I believe that children need constancy, as well as plenty of love, educational activities, physical activity outlets, and clear boundaries to flourish. When it comes to disciplining children, I feel that positive reinforcement, redirection, and natural consequences are the way to go. Occasionally a child-guided time out is needed to help the child regain control of their behavior. For me a non-punitive approach is always the best option. Physical punishment of any kind is never an option. I have extensive experience with infants, twins, learning disabled and physically disabled children.

Hire a babysitter with great references
Irisha S.

I'm referring Irisha because she watched over my 3 kids when I was working overtime. She fed them dinner, kept them busy with fun activities, and always tucked them into bed before I got home. I really trust her and believe she's a hard worker that's committed to the goals she sets for herself. Would 100% recommend her. - Tyler

Avery H.

She's a hard worker, caring, genuine person. She is responsible and very helpful in any avenue. I would recommend her to anyone - Kristen

Avery H.

Avery is a kind and fun babysitter. I do not trust a lot of people with my children and I trust her 100%. She was referred to me by some one I feel is trustworthy at church, which speaks volumes. You cannot go wrong hiring Avery! - Mackenzie

Understand Babysitter Responsibilities in Bedford, TX

Before beginning the search for a babysitter, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a babysitter is the right choice for your child care needs. There are lots of benefits to hiring a babysitter such as getting the flexibility of having some more time for yourself or with your partner. When hiring a babysitter, first, you should explore the differences between a nanny and a babysitter. If you’re looking for occasional child care, babysitters are the right choice for you, but if you’re looking for more frequent care, a nanny may be better for your needs.

From there, you can think about what you expect your babysitter to handle so that you can create a profile for nannies to reach out to you. The boundaries for babysitters’ duties can vary from family to family. However, in general, a babysitter is responsible for making sure your kids’ needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example to housekeeping, laundry, or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your babysitter before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location in Bedford can impact how much you pay your babysitter.

Bedford Babysitter Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective babysitters, the next step is to conduct an interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some babysitter interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a babysitter?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open and comfortable doing?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in Texas?
  • Do you have a Texas driver’s license? Do you own a car?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a babysitter that you’re considering hiring, make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your babysitter. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around babysitter responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming!

And of course, as you learn how to hire a babysitter, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.
