A little bit about me…

My name is Makayla Montgomery and I am 18 years old. I live in Aston Pennsylvania with my grandparents, 2 brothers, and sister. I have 9 siblings in total and I happen to be the oldest. So as you can imagine, I have a lot of experience with children. My favorite thing in the entire world is spending time with my siblings. It just makes my heart so happy. I love it so much that I want to make a career out of it. I am currently in votec for early childhood education because I want to be a teacher. Working with kids is all I've ever known and it's all I ever want to know. I'll play with the children and watch movies and be their best friend while also showing authority. Also, I have my license and I own my own vehicle so I would have no issue helping out with grocery shopping. I am a very clean person and will help straighten up the house as I go. So all in all, I think I am a great candidate for the job.

A little bit about me…

I have been babysitting children since I was 10 years old. I have watched children from the ages of newborn to teenagers. I have done a service learning project at a Daycare. Also in the past I worked for Americorps. My job there was to assist children with their homework and to supervise them. I plan to be a child social worker in the future.

A little bit about me…

I started babysitting when I was about 11 years old for children in the neighborhood. I was a popular girl on the street as many times, families would argue over who "gets" Jennifer this weekend. I can remember wanting to teach children as long as I can remember. I would play "school" more than I ever played with Barbie dolls. I pursued my degree in Elementary Education and graduated from Millersville University in Pennsylvania in 1995. I was certified at that time to teach kindergarten through 6th grade. Immediately after finishing college, I began working at a daycare/preschool local to my home. I worked there fulltime for about 2 years and part time for an additional 3 years. I began in the infant room and over the course of working there, I taught/cared for children in all the classes....infant, toddler, pre-school, and school age. I continued moving on in my job search. I took a job with the local intermediate unit. These are county wide and provide special educational services to local school districts. I was hired as an English as a Second Language teacher. I worked with students ages K-6. This job led to other opportunities as well. It provided me with the experience to teach adult English Language learners at the community college. This was an experience that was so wonderful and special. I also spent 3 years teaching troubled youth at two facilities that house court appointed youth. Not only did I teach math, reading, and English support for ESL students, I was quickly made the lead teacher, handling the administrative duties our educational support services. In 2001, I was hired by a local school district. I worked there for just under 5 years. During that time, I became a tenured teacher for the state of Pennsylvania and received my Social Studies and English certifications for grades 7-9. I piloted a grant funded program called TEP. This educational initiative supported the high number of refugee students that were being relocated to our district. Although these were teenagers, due to the war conditions in their countries, they were unable to go to school. Many of the children couldnt write their own name. It was a great program for a very needy group of children. I am still in contact with students from that program today. Many of them have gone on to the university level. I also taught 7th grade social studies during my time at this school. I am now currently working at a local PBS affiliate in the Education Services department. We provide children and family outreach based on the content of the educational programing we offer. During my time here, I have been nominated for an Emmy for an educational piece I worked on and was honored by the Southeast Regional Key of Pennsylvania as the "Professional Development Champion of the Year". Although I love the work I have done here, the project I have been working on is grant funded and the work is nearing it's completion. I need to begin to be proactive for looking for work. I would like to work with a family. With my educational background, I feel I could be an asset and a great nanny to the right family.
