A little bit about us…Hello! We are a busy family of 6 (Sometimes 7) looking for someone fun and flexible to help us out. My husband works days and I work nights. We have two daughters (14 & 15) and two boys (4 & 2- 2y/o has some developmental delays). I also have a one year old niece that comes 2-3 days a week, usually 9am-5pm. The older girls go to school and the 2 year old goes to a developmental daycare. We are still kicking around what we are looking for but here are two options that we are considering…
Someone part-time to help with the 4 year old and 1 year old several days a week while I get some sleep. This would be a variable schedule and would include picking the 4 year old up from preschool on (Mon/Wed/Fri) and bringing him home. Occasionally the 2 year old would be home if daycare is closed or if he is sick. You would make the kiddos lunch, pick up after them and let our dogs out when needed. You would be done at 2:30pm each day.
We are also considering a full time live-in nanny. The hours would also be variable (we would work together with you to come up with a schedule each week depending on what our needs are which would likely include some evening and weekend hours). We have a large home in a nice, safe neighborhood. We would even be open to a single mom with a young child. We have never had a live-in nanny before though, so we would have to figure out the rest of the details (regarding pay, house rules, etc.) if we find someone that would be a good match for this option to work.
For either option though, we would require the person looking after our kiddos to be a non-smoker, have a valid driver’s license, be able to pass a criminal background check, be CPR/ first aid certified and be willing to pick up after and prepare meals for the kids. Also, being okay with animals is a MUST. We have dogs, cats, ducks, chickens and some small caged critters.
So if you think you may be interested in either option, send me a message. We are looking forward to talking to you!

Types of Live-In Nanny Jobs and Nanny Responsibilities in Columbus, IN

Before you start looking for a live-in nanny job, it's essential to make sure you’re looking for the right opportunities by learning about the different types of nanny jobs and how they compare to each other.

Most nanny jobs vary in responsibilities and time commitment (e.g. the number of hours worked each week or the length of the commitment). There are temporary live-in nanny jobs, even seasonal nanny jobs like summer live-in nanny jobs. Beyond seasonal and temporary live-in nanny positions, there are differences between full-time live-in and part-time live-in nanny jobs. Given that live in nanny positions can be exactly what some families want, it's very important to create a shared set of expectations around hours, responsibilities, and what is expected of you when you're not on the clock.

How to Interview for Live-In Nanny Jobs in Columbus, IN

Once you start connecting with prospective employers, the next step is a live-in nanny job interview. Here is a list of some live-in nanny interview questions you should ask:

  • Can you tell me about where in the house I will live? Will I have my own bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, etc? Do I have my own entrance?
  • What are your expectations around the cleanliness and tidiness of my living quarters?
  • What level of privacy can I expect after hours?
  • Will I have a curfew in the evenings when I am in charge of the kids the next day?
  • Can I have guests over during my days off and only with the employers prior agreement? Am I allowed guests overnight?

Beyond asking these questions, families will want you to have your nanny references ready and ask any questions to show initiative. The nanny job interview is an excellent opportunity to get aligned on the nanny job expectations. By doing this, you can get off on the right foot with your future employer.
