A little bit about us

Hi! My husband and I are looking for a live-in nanny for our 14-month-old daughter, J, and son who is 7 months. We live on a farm in Bluemont, VA with lots of animals, ponds, swimming pool, horses to ride (if you are interested), and tons of fun things to do. We would love someone who is trustworthy and honest, reliable, has a sense of humor, is engaged, creative, loves children (obviously ;)) and animals, & being outside. We are looking for someone to work on weekdays mostly as I work from home as a psychologist due to Covid but occasionally have appointments, etc. Someone who is open to cooking, light cleaning, and laundry as well would be a major plus.

A little bit about us

We’re seeking a live-in nanny to join our family on our farm in Bluemont, Virginia. I am a very involved mom, and I’m present with the kids daily, but I also have many other responsibilities around the farm. The role is primarily child care for our three children: a baby girl (7 months old) and two boys, ages 7 and 13. Daily duties include morning and afternoon care, with a midday break, plus errands, grocery shopping, and farm tasks like feeding chickens and cleaning the rabbit cage. While I’m very involved, we also need someone who’s comfortable working alongside me, especially during our travel months—typically January through March—when the nanny is expected to join us out of state at our home in Florida. Weekend and flexible hours are also required, and we’re looking for a hands-on caregiver who is ready to jump in wherever needed, from child care to household chores. Compensation is based on a 40-hour week with additional hours paid at an hourly rate. We need someone who is willing and able to work additional hours as we often may exceed 40 hours. We are looking for someone who has really good energy, is active, enjoys being outside, likes to cook, is very organized and clean, prides themself on going above and beyond, and preferably enjoys playing sports—my middle son especially loves basketball, soccer, and golf. We’re looking for someone who can keep up with this active lifestyle and bring a positive spirit to our home. We will provide a car for work-related transportation.

Types of Live-In Nanny Jobs and Nanny Responsibilities in Bluemont, VA

Before you start looking for a live-in nanny job, it's essential to make sure you’re looking for the right opportunities by learning about the different types of nanny jobs and how they compare to each other.

Most nanny jobs vary in responsibilities and time commitment (e.g. the number of hours worked each week or the length of the commitment). Beyond seasonal and temporary live-in nanny positions, there are differences between full-time live-in and part-time live-in nanny jobs. Given that live in nanny positions can be exactly what some families want, it's very important to create a shared set of expectations around hours, responsibilities, and what is expected of you when you're not on the clock.

How to Interview for Live-In Nanny Jobs in Bluemont, VA

Once you start connecting with prospective employers, the next step is a live-in nanny job interview. Here is a list of some live-in nanny interview questions you should ask:

  • Can you tell me about where in the house I will live? Will I have my own bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, etc? Do I have my own entrance?
  • What are your expectations around the cleanliness and tidiness of my living quarters?
  • What level of privacy can I expect after hours?
  • Will I have a curfew in the evenings when I am in charge of the kids the next day?
  • Can I have guests over during my days off and only with the employers prior agreement? Am I allowed guests overnight?

Beyond asking these questions, families will want you to have your nanny references ready and ask any questions to show initiative. The nanny job interview is an excellent opportunity to get aligned on the nanny job expectations. By doing this, you can get off on the right foot with your future employer.
