My name is Amanda and I am interested in obtaining a nanny position with your family. I am a highly organized, caring, loving person who takes great satisfaction out of helping and assisting others. I enjoy working as part of a team that is centered on caring for the happiness and well being of children. I value communication and honesty, as well as fairness and kindness. These attributes are, in my opinion, the most important that we not only treat children and each other with, but teach children to use themselves. I believe in modeling behaviors that children need to learn, and as such I treat others with patience and respect. After graduating from Wittenberg University I realized that my true passion came from nurturing children, so I applied to the Nanny and Governess school. In June of 2011 I received my certification as a Governess and was immediately placed and have remained for the past two years. My experiences with children, however, stretch back much further than my official training. I have babysat for numerous families and was one of the primary caregivers for my younger brother, who was physically and mentally handicapped. I was raised in Northeast Ohio and enjoy going back to visit family when possible. Being born and bred in a small town in Ohio, I embrace my Midwestern roots. I love to be outside just enjoying the fresh air, working in a garden, or trudging my own path through the woods. I am also an avid reader and have recently taken up knitting. In fact, I just completed a baby blanket for my step-sister’s first child. I also highly enjoy travel and experiencing new places. I have a passion for history and thus love to explore the more historical sites within a city. With that said, it is no surprise that I have treasured my two trips abroad to Dublin and London. I have a major soft spot for castles and dream of one day traveling through Europe on a castle tour. I take advantage of every minute of my travels by researching activities and things to see or do, so I can get the most out of every day. This is a trait that segues into my daily life as well; time management is an important skill to have in order to keep children on task and teach them the importance of such a skill. I find great pleasure in working with children, and enjoy engaging them in different hands-on activities. Some of my favorites have been: splatter-painting posters outside, playing in the sprinklers, dress-up, and other creative-play games. I love being a play-mate, but always make sure to let the children know that they are secure by enforcing the rules during play. The most important things that adults can teach children are self-reliance and independence. Children need to be given the strength and encouragement to try and do things on their own in order for them to grow into capable adults. Furthermore, I feel that the core of my job is giving children what they need not necessarily what they want. A nanny should seek to keep children safe and engaged, not perpetually happy. I am not afraid to tell a child no when warranted. I find it most rewarding when I am playing with the children, and they are happy. When I can help a child overcome a fear or being timid and they can then experience something they wouldn't have experienced otherwise is a very rewarding thing! Whether it is playing in the grass barefoot (an issue I have helped with), or sliding down a slide; these experiences are truly momentous for the children, and deeply impactful to me. The most challenging part about finding a job as a nanny is finding a family that shares your values. However, when a good match for a nanny and family is found I believe that everyone will be very happy because the expectations will be cohesive and clear. I hope to find this type of relationship with your family.
