A little bit about us

Hello! I’m a PhD student and an instructor at UCSB. I’m looking for a babysitter who could look after my 6-month old daughter while I’m teaching (from 10 to 11am Tue-Wed-Thu and occasionally on Mondays) starting March 28th for the whole Spring quarter. It would be perfect for a UCSB student as I could bring my daughter to campus and you would just go for a walk with her or play in the grass. I may need more hours for my own research and class preparation but I can be flexible according to your schedule.
Vaxxed & boosted and Covid careful.
Please get in touch if you are interested!

A little bit about us

Our son, Beckett, is currently a month old and we are looking to find a nanny share setup (nanny + family with kid(s) around this age) around the end of April/May.

We would love to do a nanny share so Beckett can have a 'playmate' of sorts.

**Taking covid safety precautions is a must.**

We are thinking part-time to full-time.

A LITTLE ABOUT OUR FAMILY:

My husband Peter and I live and work in Santa Barbara and are in our mid-thirties. I work in marketing and he for the city. We live in the Hope neighborhood and enjoy taking walks at Hendry's beach with our dog Banjo, outdoor activities, and watching our favorite shows on Netflix.

Beckett joined us on 1/22/21 and we feel so lucky to have him in our lives.

What are typical nanny responsibilities and duties?

Nanny responsibilities primarily involve providing care for the children they are looking after. This can include activities like preparing meals, helping with homework, and taking them to and from school or extracurricular activities. Nannies are often expected to engage children in age-appropriate developmental activities as well. In Santa Barbara, this could involve visiting the Santa Barbara Zoo, exploring the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History, or spending time at the numerous beautiful beaches.

For more specific duties, nannies can refer to their nanny contract, which provides a detailed description of their roles and responsibilities.

How should I prepare for a nanny interview?

Preparing for a nanny interview involves understanding what the family expects from the role and considering how your skills and experience align with those needs. Reflect on your past experiences and think about how they can benefit the family you are interviewing with. Be ready to answer nanny interview questions about your past nanny responsibilities, how you handle difficult situations, your communication style, and your methods of fostering child development.

What is the typical interview process for a nanny job in Santa Barbara?

Typically, the interview process for a nanny job in Santa Barbara begins with a phone or video interview. If that goes well, families usually invite candidates for an in-person interview. This could be at their home or a neutral location. Some families may even ask the candidate to do a 'trial run' where the nanny spends some time with the children. This allows both parties to see if they are a good fit for each other.

What is a nanny contract and why is it important?

A nanny contract is a legally binding document that outlines the agreement between the nanny and the family they work for. This contract usually includes details such as the nanny's duties, work hours, salary, vacation time, and terms of termination. It's important as it helps both parties understand their expectations and responsibilities, providing a clear guideline for the employment relationship.

How does nanny payroll work?

Nanny payroll refers to the process of paying a nanny's salary and handling relevant taxes. Families typically pay their nanny on a regular schedule, such as weekly or bi-weekly. Some families use a nanny payroll service, which helps manage tax withholdings and ensures that all necessary employment taxes are paid. This service simplifies the payroll process and ensures that families are compliant with all tax laws.

How important are background checks when trying to find a nanny job?

Background checks are a crucial part of the nanny hiring process. Most families request a background check to ensure the safety and well-being of their children. A background check typically includes criminal history, driving records, and previous employment verification. If you are looking to find a nanny job, be prepared for potential employers to request a background check.
