Nicole P. - Seeking Work in Vero Beach

Hourly rate17.14 / hour

I began babysitting family and nonfamily members when I was 12 years old. From 6th grade in to my senior year in high school I was a Mother's helper for my cousin and her 3 children. While attending community college I was a part time nanny/home therapist for a family whose son was diagnosed with autism and his older sister. I remained with the family and took on 2 others until I began attending my University program for Elem. Special Education. During my time in school I continued babysitting when not in the classroom. During the summer of my graduate year I was a full time nanny for a family with two boys under the age of 6. We went to the pool daily, took walks and went to various parks, ran errands, joined friends at play group and made weekly trips to Story time at Barnes and Noble. Throughout our brief summer together the boys formed friendships and developed appropriate behavior and social skills, especially when in public places. I prepared breakfast, lunch and snacks. We conquered potty training and practiced handwriting techniques and skills for entry in to Pre-School and Kindergarten! Each family, provided me with car seats that remained in my car at all times, but at times if grandma came to visit I would leave my set when I would leave for the night. When one or both the parents would travel on business I stayed overnight to be sure the kids ate a healthy dinner, were bathed, laundry was washed and folded, and the house was clean on their return. After teaching for a year, I took a year off and began to nanny for families in Florida assisting in day and overnight duties.

Throughout my career I have had wonderful experiences as a teacher/nannie/babysitter with children of many diverse cultures and backgrounds. Most recently I was employed as a full-time, full-charge nanny where my responsibilities included the daily supervision of the household and guidance and care of the children. My key responsibilities were to assist with academic needs, handle all dietary and hygienic care, as well as the organization of daily activities. Previously I held the position of Preschool Teacher where I had the opportunity to teach a diverse group of students. I utilized my skills to introduce new concepts to my students in art, music, games, storytelling and beginning sign language. Throughout my career I have had many experiences as a babysitter/nannie/teacher to children of many different culture and backgrounds. While in California I was a Sunday School Teacher and very active with the youth in my church. Growing up I was taught to be very family- oriented; I spent many of my formative years caring for my sister who was diagnosed as a high functioning autistic. After my family and I moved to Vero Beach, I volunteered at various church nurseries on Sundays for two years. During my junior year in high school, I volunteered as a teacher's aide for algebra and intensive mathematics, a course designed for students who scored poorly on FCAT testing. I am currently taking courses to earn my Child Care Facility certification and my CPR certification.
