A little bit about me

Hi parents! My name is Grace. I am a college student at Moody Bible Institute and I am studying elementary education. I grew up in a family of six children ranging in ages from 21-3. Growing up, I always helped out with taking care of my younger siblings and loved it! I worked at a daycare from September 2016- August 2017, but had to leave because I moved to Chicago. I absolutely loved working with those kids. Children are my passion and I desire to see them learn, grow, and enjoy life. I love doing crafts, reading books, helping with homework, and just playing with kids. I would love to have to opportunity to help your family!

A little bit about me

Hi parents! My name is Phyllis. I am from Chicago, IL. Last year, I graduated from Western Illinois University with my degree in Communications.

My care for children started when my mom and her friends always would say " Phyllis kids just love you, you"are a natural". When I was 17 yrs old, I was given an awesome internship as a teacher"s aid for first grade at Passages Charter Elementary School, located in Chicago IL. That experience opened a lot of doors for me. Not only did the school invite me back to help out with the children they offered me the after school instructor position, at the age of 19. The after school program was for children ages 6-10. My task was to make sure the children complete their homework and the left over time was on fun educational games.

I started nannying after I left high school. I met a lovely family that offered me a nanny/manager position for the summer. I was in charge of two 5 months old baby boys (twins) along with their 3-year-old sister. I was with this family for 4 years .

Doors continued to open, from getting babysitting gigs through the school to people requesting my services baste off of former employers.
I have been babysitting/ nannying for over 8years now! I was a former student athlete in college where I played soccer and ran track, so I am very active and love playing any kind of sports with the kids I take care of! I also love being outdoors, arts and crafts, going to amusement parks, and finding cool, new places to go around Chicago. When I graduated college I Ianded a job as a preschool teacher last year for several months. I met a family through my class that hired me to be a after school nanny.soon on after I also became her weekend nanny as well.

Teaching is awesome but I love the one-on-one interaction that comes with being a nanny. I am currently working for a family as a nanny house manager in Wilmette with two boys, ages 7 and 10. Although, I adore this family There will ...

Understand Nanny Responsibilities in Chicago, IL

Before beginning the search for a nanny, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a nanny is the right choice for your child care needs. In hiring a nanny, first, you should think through what responsibilities you expect your nanny to handle. With that information, you can create a profile so that nannies can reach out to you. The boundaries for nannies duties vary from family to family. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example, housekeeping or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your nanny before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location can impact how much you should pay your nanny.

Chicago Nanny Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective nannies, the next step is a nanny interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some nanny interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a nanny?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open to doing?
  • Are you open to a live in arrangement in Chicago? Do you have experience being a live in nanny?
  • Are you open to being a nanny in a nanny share?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in Chicago?
  • Do you have a driver’s license in IL? Do you own a car?
  • What salary are you seeking? Are you open to being paid through direct-deposit, pay stubs?
  • What are your expectations around over-time pay and vacation time?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references, and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a prospective nanny, it’s essential to make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your nanny. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around nanny responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming! And of course, as you learn how to hire a nanny, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help
