As an education major, I am consistently surrounded by children of all ages. I have volunteered in local schools for about 5 years now. I also have in-home nanny experience with two separate families and years of babysitting experience as well.

Since I was young I have been caring for younger cousins and neighborhood kids. I worked several families with a range of age groups from infant to pre-teen. As a teen I volunteered at summer camps for kids and was working with large groups of children. I also worked in a horseback riding stables for 8+ years helping kids get their ponies ready and teaching them basic ground skills. During collage I would take the summer job of taking care of a friends children while they were at work and the kids were home from school. Being interested in art and creative things I always strive to give them interesting projects to work on as well as take them to parks. I do everything possible to engage the kids I work with. Most recently I worked for a physically disabled brother and sister and that work was some of the most rewarding I have ever done. I learned a ton about in home health care and what it takes for people in that situation to just get through their day. I am up for any challenge and love to learn so anything you throw at me I take as a great opportunity to grow. I am willing to move almost anywhere in the Southern California area.

I started working for a babysitting agency at age 18 in Fontana city. I started working for a single father of three children ages 3-7. It was a live in position, I worked for him for two years,he married so I was no longer needed. After that I would get other families through the same agency and they would place me with other homes as needed.

I have always loved babysitting and being around children. I was a nanny for 2 different families a few years ago. The first family was extremely stressful, because I was needed 24/7. The mother was very sick, the father was not around, and the 3 boys had mental health issues and serious behavioral problems. I loved caring for the children of the second family, but the family issues made it difficult. The girls were being molested by their father (the mother and father were divorced). I did my best to help them and intervene, but in the end there wasn't much I could do, which was very distressing for me. I'm looking for a family that is mostly functional, loving, and parent(s) who do not in any way abuse their children.

Mya H.

Mya is very patient with my child. My child has ADHD and Mya is very consistent with him and helps him stay on track. She is also very good about helping him with his homework and completing tasks. - Katie

Kate S.

Kate was so great with my daughter. She sang songs with her, took her on walks, played with her and read her books. My daughter always asked about Kate and always sang the songs she would sing together. Still to this day my daughter asks about Kate. Due to me starting a new job I decided to place my daughter in a daycare. But she adores Miss Kate! - Randi

Understand Nanny Responsibilities in Urbana, IL

Before beginning the search for a nanny, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a nanny is the right choice for your child care needs. In hiring a nanny, first, you should think through what responsibilities you expect your nanny to handle. With that information, you can create a profile so that nannies can reach out to you. The boundaries for nannies duties vary from family to family. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example, housekeeping or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your nanny before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location can impact how much you should pay your nanny.

Urbana Nanny Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective nannies, the next step is a nanny interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some nanny interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a nanny?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open to doing?
  • Are you open to a live in arrangement in Urbana? Do you have experience being a live in nanny?
  • Are you open to being a nanny in a nanny share?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in Urbana?
  • Do you have a driver’s license in IL? Do you own a car?
  • What salary are you seeking? Are you open to being paid through direct-deposit, pay stubs?
  • What are your expectations around over-time pay and vacation time?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references, and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a prospective nanny, it’s essential to make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your nanny. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around nanny responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming! And of course, as you learn how to hire a nanny, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.
