Although, I have never worked as a professional nanny, from the age of 12 years old, I have been responsible for taking care of my two younger brothers and other family and friends as well. And as someone who is now 19 years old college student with a 2 year old little sister, I definitely know what it takes when it comes caring for kids. I am very responsible, carefree, fun. Willing to hold the big responsibility to take care of your children, but give them a fun loving companion as well.

In high school I babysat three days a week for a 9 yr old. Her family moved away. Next, I babysat for a family friend almost 2 times weekly. She has two boys ages 2 and 6. I also have experience babysitting for many families in my church. I babysat for my radiologist who had two 6 months twins and a three year old.

I'm the oldest of four kids. There are seven years between me & my youngest sibling. I started taking care of my brother & sisters when I was 11 years old. I was constantly bugging my Mom to let me watch my younger sisters. I have always had a care-taker type personality. I babysat for the first time at the age of 13 for a family across the street from my house. Two kids, a 7 year old girl & 4 year old boy. After that I started babysitting my Mom's friend's children here and there. Beginning of high school I got my first nannying job in Norton for a single Mother to watch her two boys(6 & 11 years old). I would get to their house at 6 in the morning when she would have to leave for work & get the boys ready to be on the bus for school by 8 AM. I would go back at 1 in the afternoon to get them off the bus & stay with them until 6:30. I made them dinner & made sure homework was done. I was with them for about a year. I didn't nanny for a while after that, just babysat whenever I was needed. I started nannying again when I turned 21 for a family of 4 in Sharon. Two girls (11 & 6) I would get them off the bus every day, bring them to after school activities, get homework done, make dinner & do things around the house for the parents. I left them after a year when the mother decided to start working from their home. Babysat for them here &there when they needed a night out. The most recent job I've had was for a woman who needed me to watch her two year old little girl. Make her dinner, arts & crafts, swimming lessons, going to the park, etc. I've had wonderful experiences with all the parents & children I have worked with & I'm looking forward to working with whoever might be interested! Take care.

I have babysat for a family of two girls for seven years, beginning as their mother's helper at age 12. Spending time with these two girls are they have grown up has been a wonderful and rewarding experience. I truly have enjoyed being a positive role model for them and watching them develop into unique, intelligent and confident young girls. During high school I took three years of "Child Development" class, where I worked primarily with infants in our school day care. I have two younger sisters as well as a younger cousin and I have been in charge of their care on multiple occasions.

Understand Nanny Responsibilities in Mansfield, MA

Before beginning the search for a nanny, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a nanny is the right choice for your child care needs. In hiring a nanny, first, you should think through what responsibilities you expect your nanny to handle. With that information, you can create a profile so that nannies can reach out to you. The boundaries for nannies duties vary from family to family. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example, housekeeping or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your nanny before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location can impact how much you should pay your nanny.

Mansfield Nanny Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective nannies, the next step is a nanny interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some nanny interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a nanny?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open to doing?
  • Are you open to a live in arrangement in Mansfield? Do you have experience being a live in nanny?
  • Are you open to being a nanny in a nanny share?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in Mansfield?
  • Do you have a driver’s license in MA? Do you own a car?
  • What salary are you seeking? Are you open to being paid through direct-deposit, pay stubs?
  • What are your expectations around over-time pay and vacation time?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references, and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a prospective nanny, it’s essential to make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your nanny. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around nanny responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming! And of course, as you learn how to hire a nanny, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.
