I have been babysitting since i was a freshman in high school. Two summers ago I worked as an au pair for a family with a newborn and a 3 year old boy. I traveled with them on two separate occasions. I also gave the little boy swim lessons. During the Month of June I retunred to work for this family in Miami for several weeks and began swim lessons with their daughter who is now 2 years old. I have been teaching children to swim for 4 years and am lifeguard, cpr, first aid, aed and WSI certified.

2009 I started to become a babysitter as a helper's mommy. I would her the mom out with the baby while she would do things around the house. I also clean up after the toddler of 2 years old. 2010 I took care of a 2-year-old toddler. He had teen parents and was under the custody of his grandmother. His grandmother had work and couldn't take care of him she would leave the baby with me for 3-5 days. I learned how to bath him. Feed. Him. I also kept him active by going to the park or somewhere fun. I potty trained him. 2011 I volunteered at a Therapy Arts School for kids with special needs. Through art therapy, music therapy, dance therapy, drama therapy, and physical therapy; the kids would learn every day life skills and learn how to express their feeling. 2012 I had a few babysitting jobs. 1. I took care of 2/3 toddlers. He had a sister with special needs. She was mental healthy but she was physically disabled. I took the toddler to the park, fed him healthy food. I played with him. I put him to nap. I would prepare food for the family. I also supported him emotionally he would often get jealous of his sister who required more attention and the divorce of his parents. 2. I started a new job after the 2/2 toddlers. I took care of a 4-year-old girl. She was home schooled so I would teach her new things like pre-school material. We would also spend a lot of time in her pool and her trampoline or playing hide-n-seek. I had to leave from that job because she had 6 older siblings that could take care of her. 3. I started a sessional babysitting job with a 2-year toddler girl who had an older sister of 4 years old. They would fight over me because both were different age and wanted to play different things with me. I engaged them in games that we all could play. Like house, coloring, making puzzles. Or we would simply go to the park. It was wintertime so for the most time we would stay inside. I also had to follow their vegetarian diet very well. I would also put the 2-year-old down for her nap. Mean while I played the games the 4 year old wanted to play. 4. I then started taking care of 2/2 twin toddlers. I have been with that family for a year now. I use to cook for them lunch, breakfast, and dinner. I took them to the park and library. We also played in their back yard. I had to make sure that if there were a twin fight I would have a solution for it. The parents loved my discipline. They listen to me very well. I potty trained them in 2 months. According to the parents I am the only one that can put them both to sleep in less than 20 minutes. 2013 1. (I still worked for the twins.) 2. I babysat a beautiful 1-year toddler. She just had gone off formula so sometimes it was hard to please her. I engaged her in drinking her regular milk by reading her stories, or playing music. Eventually she would fall asleep. I also played with her with blocks and built big buildings. I also let her look out the window that would calm her down if she was crying because her parents left or if she was bored with the games. Her parents loved me because I would speak to her in Spanish (upon the request of the parents.) She picked some words in Spanish. Sometimes I had to put her to nap and I would fold laundry for the family. When she would wake up I would feed her dinner. I would mix her yummy sweet foods to disguise the food she didn't like to eat.

I have been babysitting since I was 12 years old for various families in my hometown, a suburb outside of Boston, MA. While all the kids I have worked with are precious to me, there is one family that I remain very close with even though the kids are old enough now not to need a babysitter. The three girls in this particular family are like sisters to me, and I am honored that their parents think of me as a role model to their girls. I take pride in the fact that I have been able to connect with every child I have worked with thus far. I take the responsibility of childcare very seriously, but I also love to have fun with the kids and to form healthy and mutually respectful relationships with them. I have worked with families of up to three children and with kids of various ages. I have never cared for an infant, but I do have a lot of experience with kids ages 1-12. I am a Sophomore at Syracuse University where I study Psychology and Italian. I recently completed a course in Child Development which I found extremely interesting and it corresponded well with my interest in childcare and kids in general. My long term plan is to be a Child Psychologist. I am excited to put my seven years of babysitting to the test as a nanny for the summer of 2011!

Understand Nanny Responsibilities in Newton, MA

Before beginning the search for a nanny, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a nanny is the right choice for your child care needs. In hiring a nanny, first, you should think through what responsibilities you expect your nanny to handle. With that information, you can create a profile so that nannies can reach out to you. The boundaries for nannies duties vary from family to family. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example, housekeeping or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your nanny before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location can impact how much you should pay your nanny.

Newton Nanny Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective nannies, the next step is a nanny interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some nanny interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a nanny?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open to doing?
  • Are you open to a live in arrangement in Newton? Do you have experience being a live in nanny?
  • Are you open to being a nanny in a nanny share?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in Newton?
  • Do you have a driver’s license in MA? Do you own a car?
  • What salary are you seeking? Are you open to being paid through direct-deposit, pay stubs?
  • What are your expectations around over-time pay and vacation time?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references, and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a prospective nanny, it’s essential to make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your nanny. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around nanny responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming! And of course, as you learn how to hire a nanny, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.
