A little bit about me…

I know being a nanny is different than managing to get 6 infants to sit on the floor long enough for multiple books and songs. Centers do not want the teachers having a personal or professional relationship with the parents. The parent’s relationship with their children has a lot to do with the emotional development of the child. I sound so teacher like but I’m magic with children and I can’t escape it. I find myself thinking of the things parents used to come to me and say.. Even with the most difficult defiant children, I get through to them. One 14 month old was on top a coffee table his mom came in the room. He said “where do your feet belong? On da floor.” She said she laughed so hard her ribs hurt, that he was repeating his teacher. Then he got down. That was a start.
Another little boy, his mother would verify this story..would bang his head on the floor when angry. I got him to use pillow. She raised hell to the next teachers for not being able to get him to use his pillow.

Understand Nanny Responsibilities in Parkville, MD

Before beginning the search for a nanny, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a nanny is the right choice for your child care needs. In hiring a nanny, first, you should think through what responsibilities you expect your nanny to handle. With that information, you can create a profile so that nannies can reach out to you. The boundaries for nannies duties vary from family to family. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example, housekeeping or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your nanny before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location can impact how much you should pay your nanny.

Parkville Nanny Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective nannies, the next step is a nanny interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some nanny interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a nanny?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open to doing?
  • Are you open to a live in arrangement in Parkville? Do you have experience being a live in nanny?
  • Are you open to being a nanny in a nanny share?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in Parkville?
  • Do you have a driver’s license in MD? Do you own a car?
  • What salary are you seeking? Are you open to being paid through direct-deposit, pay stubs?
  • What are your expectations around over-time pay and vacation time?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references, and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a prospective nanny, it’s essential to make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your nanny. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around nanny responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming! And of course, as you learn how to hire a nanny, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.

Daycare vs. Hiring a Nanny

Choosing between putting your child in daycare and hiring a nanny can be a tough decision. While nannies are often more expensive, they provide individualized attention and flexibility. Daycares, on the other hand, prioritize socialization. Our Nanny vs Daycare guide can help you determine what's best for your family.
