Laura C. - Seeking Work in Scarsdale
Laura C.
Scarsdale$22.85/hr  |  < 1 yr experience
My name is Laura, I’m 23 years old and I’m looking for a full time job as a nanny. The reason why I’m looking for a job as a nanny is because I love working with children and I have a lot of experience with them. My first experience with children started when my sister was born. Since she is much younger than me and my mother worked full time, I became responsible for taking care of her. For five years, every day after school I’d take care of her. However, when I started High School my mother had to hire a babysitter, since I had to go to school all day. I also have a niece and two nephews, who when I was still living in Brazil, I’d regularly take care of them. Professionally speaking, I worked at a day care center for one year as a pre-school monitor. In this day care center, I worked six months in the nursery room and I was responsible for five infants. In the nursery room, I’d feed the infants, bath them, change their diapers, tell them stories, play with them, sing to them and take them to sleep. The other six months I worked in a classroom with two-to-four-year-old children. In this classroom I was responsible for six children; I used to develop activities and educational games, help them with their hygiene and meals, play with them, teach them to sing children’s songs, read children’s stories to them and take them to sleep. For the past two years I worked as an au pair in New Rochelle. I took care of two children, a boy, who was five years old when I started, and a girl who was seven years old when I started. I used to do all activities related to them, like: Helping them with their homework, drive and pick them up from school, drive them to their extra activities after school, help them with their hygiene, cook for them, do their laundry, arrange playdates, plan many different activities, play board and educational games and clean up their bedroom and playroom. I had a really good relationship with the children and with my host family and we still keep in touch. Talking about me, I’m from Brazil and I’ve been living in the USA for the past two years. I came here as au pair and now I’m on a visa student going to school for my master’s degree, I have school two nights a week. I have a valid New York Driver’s License, I live in Eastchester and I’m available to start working ASAP. I’m very patient, easygoing, caring, creative, flexible and committed. My hobbies are outdoor activities, reading, dancing, cooking, taking care of children and traveling. I have experience with pretty much all children’s age and I’m very comfortable around them, whether I’m watching one or several. I’m looking forward to hearing from you.

Understand Nanny Responsibilities in Scarsdale, NY

Before beginning the search for a nanny, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a nanny is the right choice for your child care needs. In hiring a nanny, first, you should think through what responsibilities you expect your nanny to handle. With that information, you can create a profile so that nannies can reach out to you. The boundaries for nannies duties vary from family to family. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example, housekeeping or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your nanny before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location can impact how much you should pay your nanny.

  • Do you have a driver’s license in NY? Do you own a car?
  • What salary are you seeking? Are you open to being paid through direct-deposit, pay stubs?
  • What are your expectations around over-time pay and vacation time?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references, and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family.
