Hello everyone, I am a college student home for the summer. I have a full-time job at a summer camp from 10 am to 6 pm. I am willing to work with any parents on a flexible schedule. I have been working with kids through summer camp and babysitting jobs for about 5 years now, so I have an abundance of knowledge about how to care for a child or multiple children at a time. Though my experience may seem minimal have spent the last two years as a summer camp counselor, where I was responsible for 29 boys and girls from the ages of 6-8. This jobs included, overseeing the kids with activities, cleaning up after the children, playing safe and fun activities, keeping the environment safe, going on multiple trips with public transportation. Safety has always been my number-one priority when taking care of children, and though I will always make sure your child has fun, I will also ensure the safety of your child at every moment.

I am a lifelong resident of New York, having grown up on the upper west side. I work temporarily as a political campaign aide, but I have missed connecting with children and providing them with an inspirational and structured way of relating to the world. I've had extensive experience with early childhood education and care. Throughout my school years and into my mid twenties I looked after children from 5-9 years old in various part and full time sitting jobs. During my early and mid twenties, I mentored 8 year olds in reading and writing. One of my early jobs in college was as a summer counselor at the in Manhattan. I worked with groups of young children (5-8 years old) who visited the museum in art projects, expressive movement and reading. I have also had recent experience with newborns. For a year I looked after a new born in 2009 assisting the mother, and often by myself when she had to run errands or work. My college degree was in literature. I love reading to children and I love to draw. I'm also proficient in French having studied the language for ten years. Its important to create the right environment for kids where they can learn, and be critically observant, in addition to learning to be compassionate towards others. That said, I'm far from stuffy as I have a good knowledge of the current children's shows and books and enjoy playing and having fun. I look forward to meeting the parents who would be interested in finding out more about me!

Understand Nanny Responsibilities in The Bronx, NY

Before beginning the search for a nanny, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a nanny is the right choice for your child care needs. In hiring a nanny, first, you should think through what responsibilities you expect your nanny to handle. With that information, you can create a profile so that nannies can reach out to you. The boundaries for nannies duties vary from family to family. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example, housekeeping or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your nanny before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location can impact how much you should pay your nanny.

The Bronx Nanny Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective nannies, the next step is a nanny interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some nanny interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a nanny?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open to doing?
  • Are you open to a live in arrangement in The Bronx? Do you have experience being a live in nanny?
  • Are you open to being a nanny in a nanny share?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in The Bronx?
  • Do you have a driver’s license in NY? Do you own a car?
  • What salary are you seeking? Are you open to being paid through direct-deposit, pay stubs?
  • What are your expectations around over-time pay and vacation time?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references, and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a prospective nanny, it’s essential to make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your nanny. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around nanny responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming! And of course, as you learn how to hire a nanny, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.
