I have been a nanny since 2000 when I was nannying for a professional football players' 4 week old twins and their older sister until they were 3 and moved on to Montessori school. I then moved on to another few nanny positions temporarily and fell in love with my last position with a little girl age 4 months until she was 2 1/2 and started Montessori school as well. I have taught at a Montessori preschool in the baby and toddler rooms as well as babysat evenings and weekends for some families when necessary and pre-arranged. I have 2 children of my own, 20 and 13 and love being a professional, respectful nanny.

It all started when my cousins were born! My mom babysat them occassionally when they were babies and that is when I was introduced to my first infant experience and probably when I first learned to change a diaper; I was about 8 at the time. Around this time I was also given the opportunity to babysit some of the neighbor kids, which my mother helped me with until I was about 12. Around this age is when I took my first "Babysitting class" and CPR class. I was asked to watch kids in the neighborhood or for family friends, generally ages 3 and up. Once I hit high school I got involved with sports camps (mainly basketball) working with the elementary. My passion and love for kids really blossomed at this point and I started dreaming about having my own some day. As I went through college, I had the opportunity to work as a nanny over the summer for 4 kids ages 9-14, then later nannied a 2-year old throughout my senior year of college. Also during this time, my neice and nephew entered the world. My neice lives close by so now I take any opportunity I can to watch her; she's 2. Just recently I had the amazing opportunity of teaching toddlers at a learning center, I cherished every moment with those kids and learned so much from the experience! I occassionally still sub for them, but financially they couldn't keep me on. Currently I co-teach Kindergarteners every Sunday and co-lead 4-6th grade youth group on Thursdays. I LOVE those few hours with those kids both days! I help out with babies and kids whenever I can and whenever the opportunity is presented!

Kellye was amazing with my babies! I had a rough twin pregnancy, and she came in when they were just past 1 month old. She kept the house spotless, kept their laundry up, saw to their every need, and just was a joy to have around. Always a smile on her face and put me at ease immediately, knowing my babies were being taken care of. - Sarah

Understand Nanny Responsibilities in Seatac, WA

Before beginning the search for a nanny, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a nanny is the right choice for your child care needs. In hiring a nanny, first, you should think through what responsibilities you expect your nanny to handle. With that information, you can create a profile so that nannies can reach out to you. The boundaries for nannies duties vary from family to family. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example, housekeeping or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your nanny before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location can impact how much you should pay your nanny.

Seatac Nanny Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective nannies, the next step is a nanny interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some nanny interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a nanny?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open to doing?
  • Are you open to a live in arrangement in Seatac? Do you have experience being a live in nanny?
  • Are you open to being a nanny in a nanny share?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in Seatac?
  • Do you have a driver’s license in WA? Do you own a car?
  • What salary are you seeking? Are you open to being paid through direct-deposit, pay stubs?
  • What are your expectations around over-time pay and vacation time?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references, and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a prospective nanny, it’s essential to make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your nanny. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around nanny responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming! And of course, as you learn how to hire a nanny, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.
