A little bit about me…

My mother did home-day care from the time I was in Kindergarten through High School. I always helped out being the oldest. There was always a minimum of 5 children in the house, not including myself and my 2 sisters. I helped to provide snacks or during the summer, meals. I babysat for 3 families on my own. The first being, a friend of the family. She had two children. A toddler boy, age 2-3, and an infant girl, 3 months. In the second family, 3 boys under the age of 4. In the 3rd family, there were 2 kids. The boy was about 3-4 years of age and the infant girl was 10-14 months. I babysat for each family in different times of my life for about the time of one year.

A little bit about me…

Past working experience in childcare I have been working with children for the past 10 years. I started my career as a recreational and child development coordinator in the hotel. This job was wonderful as it helped me develop my skills further in the area of hosting children's contests and pageants, setting up tale times and dealing with large groups of children from all backgrounds and nationalities. I have always been musically inclined and play the guitar and have a pretty good singing voice. I have used this skill with the children many times and they enjoy singing along with me to the guitar. I have also choreographed some simple dance with cultural concepts and was put in charge of the music and movement curriculum at the school where I worked at as a kindergarten teacher. I’m also artistically inclined and love to sit with children and we normally come up with delightful arts and crafts. In my last job as a nanny, I was always eager to please my previous employer and truly be a blessing to her (as she was a single parent raising 3 children on her own), so I did a lot of household chores and went above and beyond the call of duty to create a loving, secure environment for the children and my employer as well. Besides chores and taking care of the kids, I also tried to constantly create a fun environment for them filled with music, lots of stories, hugs and cuddles, picnics and little outings. In time, I became very much a part of the family and when my year long contract was over it was a very tearful parting for all of us. The only reason that I wasn’t able to renew my contract was that my employer had serious financial constraints and it was a very tough decision for her to have to put her children in daycare..

Understand Nanny Responsibilities in Steilacoom, WA

Before beginning the search for a nanny, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a nanny is the right choice for your child care needs. In hiring a nanny, first, you should think through what responsibilities you expect your nanny to handle. With that information, you can create a profile so that nannies can reach out to you. The boundaries for nannies duties vary from family to family. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example, housekeeping or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your nanny before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location can impact how much you should pay your nanny.

Steilacoom Nanny Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective nannies, the next step is a nanny interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some nanny interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a nanny?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open to doing?
  • Are you open to a live in arrangement in Steilacoom? Do you have experience being a live in nanny?
  • Are you open to being a nanny in a nanny share?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in Steilacoom?
  • Do you have a driver’s license in WA? Do you own a car?
  • What salary are you seeking? Are you open to being paid through direct-deposit, pay stubs?
  • What are your expectations around over-time pay and vacation time?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references, and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a prospective nanny, it’s essential to make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your nanny. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around nanny responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming! And of course, as you learn how to hire a nanny, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.

Daycare vs. Hiring a Nanny

Choosing between putting your child in daycare and hiring a nanny can be a tough decision. While nannies are often more expensive, they provide individualized attention and flexibility. Daycares, on the other hand, prioritize socialization. Our Nanny vs Daycare guide can help you determine what's best for your family.
